Got back 2 days ago from my grams funeral in southern Illinois. I had my kid brother with me and it gave us some time to reconnect. The funeral was tough as she did just about raise me as a kid. All the true values I have are because of her. This was a weird funeral for me because with the permission of the rest of the family I used my cam as a shield against what hurt me. This was far from inspiring. I respected the others needs to grieve in their own way and did not take pictures of them at the casket.
We left right after the funeral for Wisconsin and hoped to make Watertown by 5 am and we did. As I was pulling into Coon Valley and closing on the last hour Coon Valley was being hit by 70mph straight line winds. My wife called me on the phone in a panic. She really thought this was it. She had to tell me that she loved me. When I arrived in Coon Valley an hour later I half expected to find roads closed due to trees downed across the road. Fortunately the roads were all clear. The huge 150ft Cottonwood tree in the back yard came down between the next apartment building and my storage shed where my vintage motorcycle resides. This was strange as the branch and group of the tree that came down was pointed a different direction than where it landed. Here I am 3 days later and still no internet connection. Right now I am at my daughters using hers. We are among the fortunate ones as we only spent 1 full day without power. Now to figure out how much we have lost from the fridge. I am sure the milk and eggs are done in because the fridge hit mid 50's. However the freezer hit about 23 degrees. This has just been and insult to injury week. Right now our internet con is down and there is no light at the end of the tunnel. Apparently Mediacom is a bunch of idiots and is busy restoring internet connections to places that have no power. ![]() I have yet to see a truck in our area.

Thomas, condolences to you and your family. The power and the internet will come back, unfortunately, Gram will not.

Sometime it seems tough times come all at once, things will get better..
on a side note we had a huge tree fall in a storm once, we watched it. It snapped and did a complete 180 and fell across our back fence. Hubby and I rushed to the car and around the block sure the house behind us was crushed, but the tree managed to fall kind of in a V so branches were on either side of the house but the house was undamaged with the exception of a few shingles off the corner of the roof. |

Wow Izzy, that's a lot to deal with all at once. Hope all gets back to normal soon. Condolences on the loss of your grandmother. It sounds like you loved her very much & she you!

To add to the insult to injury stuff. I am in a CCU after having what seemed like a heart attack. All the prelim tests say no on the h-tack. With any luck I will be able to go home tomorrow and hide from everything and everyone.
