Smile Be Polite....

On DPS I've observed some of the people reply in very very harsh language while replying, that may demoralize the person isn't it? May be rather than using harsh words can be explained in polite manner too. It may boost the person with more creativity.

Sorry if i've hurt anyone by writing this.

Sorry Janakkpandya.. But sometime people can be brutally honest, they have lives outside of this forum that can stress them and that can spill into their interactions on the forum..

We're mainly adults on this forum, (some of us don't act like it maybe) but it's a fairly simple process to ignore someone who you don't find you get on with, however it's a big world, and this forum circumnavigates that.. Everyone here is allowed a viewpoint, and occasionally people choose to disagree.

Might I suggest you avoid the "General Chit Chat" threads if you are uncomfortable with people expressing themselves in the way they choose? As far as I'm aware, it's the only one where people actually use the expressions and language that they would do in daily life.. We are all human after all.

I agree with SwissJon. When I submit an image for critique, I would rather it be torn apart with honest and constructive input instead of "nice shot". My desire to learn and produce a quality image far out weighs any need for positive strokes or ego boosting.

I have noticed some here have an inflated self worth and become very defensive when confronted with facts or opinions contrary to their own beliefs. I disregard those folks. There is much to learn here other than photography.

Define polite please.

Does that mean sugar coat the truth?

Or does that simply mean leave out words like shit and crap when describing shitty crappy images?

I'm confused. The only thing I believe I need to be is constructive. If it hurts the persons feelings, so be it.

I think for the most part people try and be polite or at least sensible... but sometimes there are instances where a little firmness is appropriate. for example:
- posting without bothering with the posting rules
- not searching through threads before asking the same question 1001 other people have already asked
- pontificating
- being a poser
- talking politics

lol.

Where are these mysterious, rude, anti-social behaviours occurring here on DPS? Admittedly, I only spend time in a few subforums, but I feel like I never see anything that's too raunchy...

This comes up every month or two on this site, doesn't it? However, no one ever gives an example of this "rudeness." Are you referring to profanity, or the attitude of the poster? Is it possible you're misinterpreting someone's attempt at humor or sarcasm as rudeness? I've been on this site for a couple of years and I've seen people become defensive, but I'm not seeing the rudeness.

The last time I posted in a thread of this type I got my a$$ handed to me. I think I'll leave this one alone. Well, sorta...
