Default Pancake lens

anyone see this yet? almost as small as the 20mm and its a 14-42mm (28-84mm 35mm equivilant) This is exactly what my wife would love to have on her Lumix G3 that I'm getting her for her birthday! Then she can just throw the camera in her purse without a huge lens getting in the way! Awesome

Interesting! The standard zooms for mirrorless interchangables were always a bit problematic since you had a standard sized lens on what was supposed to be a compact device, the two designs often didn't mix well. The solution to that was their pancake primes, but of course that wasn't a zoom lens. It'll be interesting to see how a zoom pancake ranks up optically.

according to DPREVIEWs preview they say the image quality with this lens is better than the standard 14-42mm lens. The reason I like this is because of the larger sensor on the Lumix G3 which I am getting for my wife as a compact camera. however it is a micro 4/3 DSLR it is much smaller and a compact lens would be efficient.

Yeah, pretty cool

I'd get one for my ep-1 , but I've got the kit already so there's little advantage for me other than size and the olympus kit already collapses - not as small but, not really enough reason for me- especially since I'm almost always using either my 20 or my 12. It's pretty slow at 42 - then again so is my kit lens. For less, i'll probably just finish up with the new oly 45 1.8

Not an adapted CV 40mm f/1.4?

I've always thought the super-sexy lens in the m4/3 lineup was the Panasonic 7-14....well, that and the Voigtlander 25mm f/0.95.

Inkista - I almost got the 7-14, but wen't with the new 12mm f2 because of it's small size -it's a great little lens - and the build quality is great... - it should be on your list. oh - and the new oly 45 is gonna autofocus - which is really useful the way I use the EP-1. since it's usually my take with me camera - MF is ok, but gets in the way sometimes

3bay, I am curious to hold the new pancake kit, and see it's image quality - but I'm gonna miss out on the firmware of the panasonic cameras which take more advantage of the lens metadata

I'm sure they will have new firmware for these lenses. It says its using firmware 0.0 but it isn't even out yet, so we'll see!

They will, but what I meant was that the data encoded in the lens firmware isn't really used by non panasonic cameras - so my olympus camera, without the panasonic camera firmware - won't get all the benefits - this is known with the panasonic 20 1.7 as well
