I certainly think it's worthy...

From the article....
"Hawkeye walked up to the casket at the beginning of the service and then dropped down with a heaving sigh as about 1,500 mourners witnessed a dog accompanying his master until the end, reported CBS. " Okay... I'm bawling now

On the news this morning I saw a slightly different version of this shot, shot from the side...I was touched by it and felt it had the potential of being more of a prize winner than this one

The picture's neither descriptive nor a particularly good shot.. Without the story, it's just a picture of the back of an animal laying before a coffin.. The photo is cut in half by the background, the speaking area sits on top of the coffin, the picture is cluttered, there's no way to see the expression on the face of the dog.
The story is sad.. The picture doesn't tell the story.. Shame. I don't think it's Pulitzer prize material.
