Photo editing is tough work! Not because its hard, but because it seems that I have to do my edits, then come back to it 20 mins later, then again, and again.....
I've got a big problem. When i do my editing I'm about a subtle as an elephant fart. Garish, Bold, extreme colors... it seems to me that no matter what i end up "liking", after coming back to it later, or comparing it to others work it ends up being a fair bit over the top. I swear, I'll let it sit on the pc when i'm "done" come back to it in 20 mins, think its too much, sit down to edit it again and after 20 mins... it looks the same as it did when i left the last time lol. Maby its just my style, maby i'm just a noob. WTH, anyone else have troubles like this? this is a photo that I worked on for hours, sat down to it about 10 times, and even now that i've given up on changing it, is a fair bit grittier than i'd imagined when i started. click here to see photo |

Most times we are our own worst critics. Nice photo by the way. :-)

Lol, dont get me wrong guys, I like the photo like it is, but my first reaction is always to hit it with everything i got.
That perticular photo I had a much softer scene in mind, in the end its all hard light and big contrasts. I just cant bring myself to accept the one i had in mind. I always agree with myself that this version is the one ![]() A color version just wouldnt impact. its all grey with faded yellow buoys, Its the texture of the wood that makes this image interesting for me, and black and white has always been good for that. My complaint is that i very rarely go for subtle in my images, when i think i probably should. I cant decide if its because i'm still new(ish) to the game, or if maby its just my style. |

This is the unedited version. As you can see the texture and shades really have a soft feel to it. and the colour is pretty bland. This version is pretty uninteresting IMO.
when you compare the two you can really see how over top i went with it. _MG_6390-3.jpg |

I think if you spend too long on something your eyes tend to go "numb" staring at the thing. I also think that immediately editing something after capture adds to the "overdone" tendency. Maybe because we get "over excited" about the capture....
There have been many times where I've worked quite hard on an image only to come back to it sometime later and think "why did I even bother?"
