Default So... what's your trajectory?

I've been thinking a lot about this recently and this should be a blog post on my site, but what the fawk, right?

Where the hell am I really going with all this? So far, I've just been blinding following the opportunities and doors that have been opened for me. I don't really have a main goal with it, have fun, make money, make friends along the way and crank out some killer material.

Perhaps I'm writing this to feel a bit of cathartic relief from it all, but who knows what my real aim is other than I feel compelled to write it down and post it on the googles and interwebs.

My trajectory has looked like this....

Bought camera with no real goal in mind other than to channel a bunch of built up energy I had. Learned how it worked and thought everything I did was gold. Made a few sales from some stuff early on that bolstered my resolve. At this point, not really caring too much about stuff and where it went or whatever, I was just in it for me.

Started to get more interested in car stuff and photographing cars. Got invited by a friend to volunteer 6 hours away in Madison, WI to work a SCCA event for the Hot Rod PowerTour. I convinced the wife to let me buy a 70-200 2.8VR for the trip, still don't know how the hell I did that, but it worked. It rained, it sucked, all I got was a free T-shirt and a free breakfast. Shot the hell out of the show and just generally had a good time. Posted a few of the images online and within 2 days I was contacted by an editor of a magazine wondering if I wanted to do some work for them.

Did my first feature, apparently did well with it. Made tons more contacts with other publications did a few other features. Get an email from an editor of a book company for me to help author a book. I say sure, just going with the flow what the hell, right? Still doing feature work sporadically, as time allows.

I move twice, build a house, have a baby, change jobs and help write a book while doing feature work. A tad busy.

So, then I get a chance to work on a second book by the first editor and my garage looks like it EXPLODED with car parts. So now I'm working on a second book and here's my garage as it sits today.

I have no clue where I was going with any of this, but it helps to get it all out... I also have no clue if this is where my career/photo stuff/life or whatever is supposed to be going... it just 'is' and I suppose it will go on being.

Ah well,

Later,

~Eric

Thanks for this Eric. I have no goals or aims at all. Haven't done nearly as well as you. Gone backwards even, but I think it's part of the ride. I know the doors will open up at some point. I must have some more learning to do yet? It's stuff like this that light the fire under my ass. The Camaro in a gazillion pieces even motivates me! lol!
Thanks for sharing.

You've done alright! I'm still waiting for my big break.... At least you've got goals and you are working towards them. That's more than what I've achieved recently.

That's the odd thing... I don't really have any goals... Projects just seem to find me and that's an odd concept for me right now.

The whole point of this was to show to myself that I have no aim, rhyme or reason, or even an end goal.

Nothing wrong with going with the flow, besides if the flow slows you got a nice garage full of cool car parts to keep you busy and a little person that can hand you tools in a few years...and there is your purpose.

funny - my first time through i wrote "special purpose" but decided to edit it out... "I think next week I'll be able to send some more money as I may have extra work. My friend Patty promised me a - job. Your loving son, Navin. ...:
