Default Beautiful videos using Canon 60D - nice story

Great videos, great style, great talent. This guy Ro Tierney (from New Zealand I think). Made this amazing video with the Canon 60D. Snow fall at a shopping mall in Central Wellington. The link below show the video. He also has a couple of other terrific videos.

Ro Tierney - Wellington Based Filmmaker & Editor

Worth taking a look at.

Here is the news article about him and his film.

I believe I read somewhere that, in some areas, it's been 30-40 years since the last snowfall. It's interesting to see the reactions...a sort of child-like wonderment.

Its 35 years since it snowed such as this in Ashhurst, the wee town where I live.
And 80 years since snow in Palmerston North, our nearby city.
So it really is a newsworthy event.

I was closeted in a jury room all of Tuesday afternoon. When we were dismissed by the judge after delivering our verdict, he advised us that there had been some changes outside while we'd been shut away. You've never seen 12 such disappointed people.

Thankfully there was another fall on Wednesday night, so we hadn't missed the whole thing.

I know that for a lot of you folks snow is ho-hum and a major inconvenience. For some of us, pariticurarly the kids, it's been a once in a life time experience.

Its more common in the South Island in winter but not so much in the North, especially at nearly sea level. It snowed in downtown Auckland for the first time since 1939 - the excitement was not so much that it was snowing as to where it was snowing.

We usually miss a couple of school days a year to snow, the kids were disappointed that the first snowfall was in the holidays. Schools were closed two days in a row down here this week, that doesn't happen often. There is a small country school inland from Dunedin, at altitude, that anticipates having up to 2 weeks off due to the snow, the kids make a "snow folder" in the summer months so that they have school work to be doing when they are stuck at home in winter.
Along with the schools being closed so were 60% of retail on Monday, no buses, taxis, bread, milk or fuel deliveries. It was estimated that the local economy lost up to $8 million from lost retail & productivity, just on Monday.

Man, you guys gotta come visit the great-lakes region of the US/Canada in January. Chicago, the North-eastern US, all the way up to Ottawa, Montreal, and out to Halifax. You'll go to bed one night with green grass and wake up to a foot or two of snow.

Yup, every winter when we have our "snow days" I wonder - does Canada just close down for the winter or do they just learn to deal with it!
