Why not just tie a piece of string to the tripod mount on your camera and step on the other end to see if it works?

Edit: I might just start doing that and attach the string to my pants just so I stop mooning people when I take low angle shots.

Oh my god, someone's just invented string..

This ISN'T a tripod replacement.. At a push it'll replace a monopod, but as pixsixsix said, just use string. This will assist with vertical motion only, not side to side, nor forward back.. Don't waste your money, it's a gadget.

So its string? Its basically a yoyo that attached to your camera. Or, you know, STRING.
If you need something small to help, use this

As an additional bonus, its far more attractive to the ladies if you carry it around in your pocket

And regardless of how effective it's supposed to be, leaving the videocamera lens cap on is probably a more fundamental error, which isn't going to improve your picture taking anyway - YouTube video 2:24m

It's a screw in, a wee bit tricky.

thanks for the link Nicole.....personally I have never even heard of this before, but I can see how it could help you out, and as the writer said, "has gained him up to 3 stops when in a pinch"

I would certainly consider throwing a length of string in my bag.....but to the OP, I would not spend $25 on that gadget....
