Pretty cool stuff Eric. I have to deal with this effect every day though. Sun vs Artificial lighting for matching paint. It can be pretty drastic depending on the color.

Basically, the brain compensates for materials under shadow.

Mind boggling. You can see the shade get darker as she moves it out from the shadow and lighter as she moves it back under.
