Question What equipment would you take to the trip of your lifetime?

Let's try this another way...

As I mentioned in another post, I am going on a trip next year and don't want to take a lot of equipment with me, however I do want to have great pictures afterwards of course.

Having said that, please take a look at my equipment list on the bottom and let me know which lenses etc. you would take.

If you have a recommendation for something that's not listed below, please explain, why you recommend this piece of equipment in particular.

As always, any comment is very much appreciated.

Where are you going? What are you planning on doing? A week of snowboarding would necessitate different gear than, say, a week of exploring historic churches.

My gut says take the D80 and the 18-135 for the ultimate in flexibility, at the expense of low-light capability.

What ranges you you find yourself shooting at the most?
Everyone is different, but I find myself shooting at the longer ranges mostly with zooms.
When I shoot with primes, I stay in the 35mm or 50mm range.
So.... I would definitely take the 70-300, and the 18-135, just to get funky and wider.
But that's just me.

We are going on a few Greek Isles, also mostly landscapes in bright sunlight . . .

I'm kinda terrible when it comes to things like this: my idea of a travel kit is, uh, everything...

For instance, I've been using this same kit for 3 years now, and will use it again when I go to Greece in September.

Nikon D300s + grip
Nikon 10-24 f/3.5-4.5
Nikon 18-70 f/3.5-4.5
Nikon 70-300 f/4.5-5.6 VR
Nikon 50 f/1.8D
Nikon SB-800.

Yes, it's big. Yes, it's heavy. Yes, it's probably excessive. Yes, I use it all.

Luckily I've gotten good enough at looking at a scene or at an area as I'm approaching and decide on which lens to mount first (ie which one i'll use the most). From there, I use the others when I get some extra time.

For instance:
Last year I was on a cruise through the north-east coast of the US and into Canada. In the vast majority of my shooting I had my 10-24 on the camera. However, I also brought a film body (AHA! Didn't mention that) that only works with my 50/1.8. I went out one morning specifically to shoot just black and white film: it worked great. During my time, I also used the 70-300 VR (mostly onboard ship) and the 18-70 for general walkaround stuff. The flash didn't get much use, but it was nice to know I had it if I needed it, and it didn't really add much to my kit's size/weight.

The lot of it fits into a Lowepro Rezo 180AW.

I'd say the 18-35 for sure. You're probably nor going to need to go wide for lanscapes, and it's very flexible. I suggest taking the 70-300 as well. Not too big or heavy, very versatile, and you're probably going to regret not having enough reach if you don't. Also be sure to take the P&S. On every single vacation I've ever been on, there has been at least one super photogenic place, where its impractical to take a big camera.

Jonbar nailed it, that's exactly what I was going to say.

Also - lots of smaller SD cards, if you put all your photos on one card and that card gets lost/wiped - there goes your entire vacation.

Remember to bring a power adapter so you can charge your batteries on the other side of the world

1 lens answer is the 18-135.
I would through in the 50 cause it is tiny
add a circular polariser for the very white buildings and glare
