Default Posting Rules ? Confused ?

Hi - I'm new here and really enjoying it - but I don't understand why the posting rules say I can't reply to a an answer to a question I have posted ?? Why not ??

I posted a new thread last night and have had replies that I don't understand - so all I am seeking is clarification to help me take a better photo ???? Scratching my head this end ??

Can anyone help me out ?

Also - if I don't want to reply - how do I do it....what do I click on ??

Thanks everyone...

I'm equally confused to be honest.

You can reply to posts you make. The only place that we have a rule like that is in the Share Your Shots section where we ask that people don't reply to their own post within 24 hours in order to post additional pictures above the limit of 4 per day.

Otherwise, there's no reason why you can't reply to the other thread you started (which I'm just going to pop into the Photographing People forum. This is the thread you're talking about, right? Taking flattering photos of older women - help !)

Hi Nicole - yes, that's the one. It is reference to the term 'short lighting' that I didn't understand. I really am new at this.....

Hi Louise, if you want to reply to a post without quoting the person just move to the end of the thread, click the far right hand side button with the down arrow in it. Hover over the button and it will say "Quick reply to this message" Then type away and submit. If you want all the bells and whistles(icons, bold type, fonts etc) then click the "New Reply" button at the bottom left of the thread.

If you want to quote the poster you are replying to(as I've done in this reply) click the "Quote" button at the bottom right of the reply you want to quote. You can delete some of the quote content when it appears in your reply box(again, like I have done above and that's because I'm only replying specifically to one part of your post) Make sure you don't delete any of the content within the [ ] brackets at the beginning and end of the quote.

You can also multi quote but I think the above will be enough information for now, that's is of course, if you find your way back to here!

ETA- I see you did manage to get back here, you posted while I was typing. Now you need to go to your other thread and ask the question there about the lighting. That way the people that posted on that thread will be able to follow up and advise.

Here ya go Louise, hope this helps.

1 - Clicking this will quote the message under which that particular button is located.

2 - This button is the "Multi-Quote" button. It is similar to the quote button but will add every message for which you click on that button under it's message allowing you to quote many people at once.

3 - This is the "Quick Reply Arrow" everyone is talking about. Clicking this will allow you to enter a quick reply in the box at the bottom of the page. Not many bells and whistles but easy to make a fast reply. FYI, there is a 10 character minimum post so no "LOL" or "Nice" reply's. They won't go through.

4 - This opens a new window with all the bells and whistles. Feel free to click on it to check out everything there. It won't post anything until you submit so you can look at it freely and see what it's all about.

Very nice of you to take the time and effort to create this explanation. Just one example of what make this community so spectacular.
