Default New to the forum.

Hey everyone, my name is Adam. I'm recently getting into photography, and look forward to learning/reading/sharing. I'll post a few of my recent shots here for general observation/critiques. I'm open to comments, and I'm always wanting to hear how to improve my technique.

If you have any questions about settings (MetaData etc) please ask.

Thanks Bruce. I've been looking for a place to share and learn...and a forum specifically about learning seems like a great place to start.

Hi Ac, welcome to the forum.

To point you in the right direction if you're looking for critiques or just general feedback, you'll get a better response by posting in those forum sections (Share your shots and Critique). Check the posting guidelines for each one first though which are stickied at the top of each section, as they do differ. Prepare to be patient too as sometimes it can take awhile for the right person to come along and give feedback. It is worth the wait though.

This section is more for squabbling with one another and grumbling about stuff , so your pics and the feedback you're after might get overlooked somewhat here.

Thanks Dodge! I appreciate the advice, and did in fact post a picture in the Critiques section (cityscapes). I just wanted to say 'hi' here, and share a small group of my favorite shots. I'll start a thread for just posting all of my photography soon as well. I just thought I'd post these few in an effort to show more about myself, and my my introduction more interesting (more than just a 'Oh, hello my name is _').

No worries

Nice to see another Sony user too, not so many of us about.

You're right about that! I've loved the Alpha too...typical Sony, right? Shove more features than the competitors into a box for less money. User friendly, and a nice looking camera too. I just wish the A100 had a higher FPS rate...but hey, you can't have everything.

Indeed, I started with an A350 and recently sold it to upgrade to a used A700, the difference in performance is amazing and for relatively little outlay. I liked the A350 a lot but the A700 is a whole different beast. I had considered the new A5xx's but didn't need the video capeabilities so went used and got a hefty upgrade for less. Very happy with it. Admittedly I have no Nikon or Canon experience though, so can't compare.

The A350 is probably where I'll go next...but I've only recently learned how to use my A100, plus I can't really afford an upgrade yet.

I don't have an hand's on Nikon/Cannon experience either, the only comparisons I can make (fairly) are based on shoots I do regularly with my good friend, Rob. He started with a Nikon D40x, still has that...but also bought a D90. The D90 dwarfs the performance of my Alpha, but when compared, straight up, to the D40...the Sony wins easily. Plus, it was a few hundred dollars cheaper.

One of the best things I like about the Sony, though...the A/F being in the body. Most cameras at that price point (D40, D40x, even some of the more entry-level Cannons) don't have this feature.
