Default Depth of field issues

No, it's not what you think!

For a few months now I've been getting headaches when working for too long on the computer.. Finally last week I figured out that perhaps my vision wasn't as good as it used to be, so I went to the optician. Well, after taking an eye exam in French, a novel experience, the optician decided that I was +1 in my right eye, and +.75 in my left.. Not much it seems, but enough to cause me headaches.

Well my glasses arrived today, and I didn't realise how blurred my vision was.. Looking at things now I can see details I couldn't before.. That's fine.. I can focus now with absolute perfection up to 2m.. But beyond that, it's now blurred, and I have to take the glasses off to see properly.

What this means in fact, is that I'm noticing a distinct depth of field boundary, and it's strange to look at the world and see it as my camera does.. Very disorienting though because now, there's a slight movement at a plane that is outside of my head..

Anyway, I have to admit that I REALLY like being able to see clearly.. Although I hate glasses and may end up eventually with contacts.

Oh the joys of getting old!

Don't feel bad John. I've been using Walmart "cheaters" for a year or so and my next optitian appointment is next week. I've noticed a change in my distance vision now also. The road signs are not a clear as they should be until I hit the "sweet spot" of my vision. I'm guessing about 70mm focal.

I've been dodging bifocals for a couple years now....
Recently I've developed a tendency to over sharpen my images.....I'd rather have a headache.

I've been wearing glasses for 15 years now. The past few, I've needed bifocals. I can still work without glasses to do photography, but I can sure see that's going to change soon.

My eyes are all over the place, the left is okay for distance the right isn't - for close up it's opposite and bi-focals are out of the question - If I look with my eyes down I get double vision. Luckilly the diopter on D7000 is adjustable to my vision - so far

I have them since the mid 1980's for reading.
I was having trouble adjusting DIP switches and links on printed circuit boards at work.
About 3 years ago I needed a different prescription for driving. I couldn't read distant road signs and had to go up to the second line from the top at the eyesight test chart when renewing my licence.

I only need them when photographing is to view the screen on the back of the camera. That makes a good reason not to chimp. However it is a pain when shooting close ups of flowers etc when not using a screen .... it means glasses on to see the flowers and glasses off to photograph them..

Mine are - .50 on both but I can pass the eye exam just fine when I am feeling good. On an off day I do - .50. Mine are mainly for computer use, however I do wear them most of the time aside from shooting. Glasses just get in the way for me and I figure shoot without for as long as I can. When I sit and do a few hours of edit without them I definitely notice.

Interestingly enough - Things closer than the comp screen I cant read, IE a book or magazine. It is then the glasses must come off.

If only you could change the aperture and focus point...

It could always be worse. I'm -3.5 in both eyes, and I'm still in my 20's. I've been in glasses since I was 2, and contacts since 12. I'm planning on Lasik surgery sometime next year, and I can't wait!

OP, I don't know if contacts will work for you - cause it sounds like far-sightedness.

I had LASIK surgery done a month ago and can I say - it's AWESOME for photography! Now I can put my eye right up to the viewfinder. Gad I hated my glasses, and my eyes started rejecting the contact lenses. I was -6ish though so very blind!
