Default I *heart* my local computer store

So,..as most of you know, my laptop recently crashed. After reinserting the hard drive into the computer, it still wouldnt work. So I took it to the same store where I got the kit to hook up my hard drive and retrieve the files. Showed them the error message I was getting, and I bought an OEM disk of Win7 Home Premium. Took me damn near forever to figure out how to install the damn thing, but once I did, ran its set up, and now its like I have a brand new laptop!! W00T!!

I was hoping to be able to get it fixed before our trip back home for the Hubby's R&R. Now I can offload photos and edit them if I want to.

Yeah, Win 7 is great. It always surprises me to see an older machine running more smoothly on a new OS than on an older one.

I'm still using XP. Of course, beavis needs a major rebuild and upgrade any way. I need to replace it's guts from the ground up. Not looking forward to reinstalling everything. TigerDirect is going to be happy next time I place an order.

You will never regret having two machines (desk and lap) I would never go back to one machine again.

BURN A COPY ASAP OF IT. I cracked mine in the center on the second install. It was hell to get the disc to spin slow and make an iso of it. I have 2 backups just incase and one stays in the laptop bag.

Thats only because Windows has the inherent ability to naturally slow down as the system registry gets larger over time with usage. It only seems faster because you've been using a bogged down system for so long.

There is always a reg cleaner

Auslogics Registry Cleaner - One of the safest Registry Cleaners

I use it when things get nasty. However this usually means that I am doing a complete reset in the next month or two.

I certainly would not pay for it but it runs faster for a bit for the same reason you originally listed. I think all OS's suck

Try Ubuntu Linux, I've been virus free, never had to reformat, always been able to fix any issue(that i usually cause), and has been through 11 major OS upgrades. Without fail. not to mention that all the applications i have on my system are free (not pirated, actually free) and are maintained and upgrade with the OS with the assurance that the application has been tested and is known good software, that is compatible with my system, else it's not in the repo.
no registry to clean, no having to defrag. It Just Works.

(did I mention the Linux systems run approx 90% of the internet, The different Stock Exchanges around the world, and 99% of supercomputers, satellite and digital cable boxes, and you're HD TV'S, and NASA's SPACE SHUTTLE!!!!!(i think))

just look at all important stuff we DON'T trust Windows with... Why do you trust it with your computer?

Edit( MAC's are a UNIX variant(built with a BSD Kernel), Almost like the grandfather to Linux.

Ubuntu is on the other partition. Too bad Windows keeps taking it out when it decides to die. If only Ubuntu could really emulate the environment needed to run the Adobe products, I would get rid in Win 7 in a second and never turn back.
