Exclamation EXIF data

Have people forgotten how to read the "Read this before Posting" at the top of all the sys forums?

There is so many pics coming in the various SYS and SYS Crit sections with no EXIF data it is not even funny. Starting to look like a photobucket dumping ground. I personally will not crit a photo that has no EXIF data. This lack of EXIF data is just a matter of laziness. I mean if I post a photo from last winter I atleast go look up the EXIF data.

Is this really so hard?

Agree with the critique comment, but there isn't/wasn't an EXIF requirement in SYS, to the best of my knowledge.

As to people not reading the sticky posts, yeah, that's not just an issue here. That's anywhere, online or offline. How many people don't bother to read the instructions for a gadget they bought, then complain that it doesn't do what they expect?

The world would be a much different place if people read the rules and thought about things before they acted. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to daydream of utopia.

I'm a little surprised at low the % of OPs who actually submit critiques according to the rules. I never thought it was hard. I think any new member should be taken to the critique rules page before they can start a new thread in Critique.

I know Windrider must be tired of reminding those people all the time. Hell, I am too and I'm not even a mod!

I started a post on this same subject about 9 months ago and was told I was inaccurate & condescending so watch what you say. By the way, I totally agree, if you cannot follow the rules then you should not expect to be critiqued.

I noticed how many "please read the rules" posts Windrider is posting lately, it must get frustrating. I don't post in critique much but I read it a lot, its usually very helpful. But the number and quality of replies is often very reflective of how well the poster has read and followed the forum rules.
I read the forum rules at least twice before I posted anything, afraid of getting it wrong

Maybe they should print the "Read the Rules" in big red lettering. However, they can't even change the weekly assignment winner shot so any request will most likely go in the too hard basket. But then posting e-books for us to buy doesn't seem to be a problem.

I stopped critiquing several months ago exactly because of this.. I got sick of telling people to include the Exif, and even sicker of being told that it's not neccesary.. If you want my critique then I'll decide what's neccesary, not you or someone else who doesn't see the need.. If you're too lazy to follow the rules, I can't be a**ed to critique you, no matter how good your photo.

Maybe DPS could put an easily accessible link to the forum rules that can be seen when you click on "reply to" on a that autogenteates the title "Please read the forum rules.." It'll save people lots of hunting around and help Windrider.. Maybe also in the forum rules we could put the reasons why it's ALWAYS neccesary to put forward a question and add Exif Data.. It'll save much typing.. THere are really only 3 rules..

Stay on topic - No portraits in Landscape, no landscape in portraits etc etc.. There's obviously marginal shots, but if it's obviously one or the other, put it where it should be.
Ask a question - If you don't critique yourself and decide what you want to know, nobody else will.
Add the Exif data - I may not need it to give you a critique.. But unless I see it, I won't know if I need it or not.

That's it.. that's all there is for a critique thread.. Nothing more.. Just those two things (Obviously keep your post on topic and keep nudity off the main threads.. but they're second to the above for actually getting a critique.)

Yup. my poor lil fingers get tired some days!
We've discussed how to overcome this issue on many occasions just never came up with a good solution. I know when a person signs up initially they have to agree to follow the guidelines of the forum, seems not may people do tho.
