Default Rw2 files

There probably is a thread for this already but im too lazy to look, ive started taking pictures in raw format, and when tried to open in cs3 they arent recognised. I have subsequently downloaded the plug in and they still wont work.

I can open them then "develop" them with silkypix but i dont know whether that compromises the quality

Use Adobe's RAW-DNG converter.

Extend | Adobe Photoshop CS5

Converting to DNG will cause NO loss whatsoever.

Download for 6.4
Adobe - Adobe Camera Raw and DNG Converter : For Windows : Adobe DNG Converter 6.4 update

I use CS3 and it seems to hate CR2 files while Light room handles them just fine without conversion. As a matter of course I convert all RAW files to DNG.

CS3 is an older version (CS5.5 is newest) and adobe does not support old software after new software comes out. Thus, if you buy a new camera, your old adobe software likely doesn't know what to do with the files from the new camera. You can either upgrade to a new version of photoshop where your new camera is supported or, as suggested, convert to DNG which is supported since ACRv2.2 or something.

Lightroom3 works with the files because it is still supported with updates knows what to do with the files from the camera.
