Default Who's asleep at the DPS wheel?

Wouldn't it be nice for the DPS forum weekly assignment winner to have their photograph displayed on the DPS home page? But hey, you say, they do show the weekly winner's image on the home page! Well sort of - I recall a pair of boots sitting there for a couple of months and now there's been an image from another winner sitting there since the beginning of the month.

There are no prizes for the winning photographer, but a little recognition for the winners for their efforts in entering the comp would be nice don't you think. DPS is a great place for we amateurs to learn from other amateurs and pros alike, but looking at old material that sits on the home page under the weekly winner banner seems to me like some one is asleep at DPS wheel.

So any opinions????

Have you ever had the thought to update the winning picture of the poster to the website for viewing of the readers.

Many people may not have had this thought, so I post this thought for people to have.
I see the top three in my RSS feed, but rarely view the website home page.

I guess instead of putting the question first, I need to put it last.

Gee Bruce, thats a bit hard on the hardworking DPS team.

I'm sure they take on board reasonable criticism, but I don't see anyone of them falling asleep at the wheel.

They usually pull off the road and have a snooze.

Cheers,

John W

This Week in the Digital Photography School Forums (24-30 Jul ‘11)

It's there every week. Granted, it's not prominently displayed on the home page, but it's always in the "This week in" link.

What's displayed on the home page every week has been rarely the current winner. Since I've been a member here it has been changed only twice. That's my point.

I think DPS has a great team, but some one should have the responsibilty for this simple little task

Perhaps they need a volunteer just for this task?! Just think of all of the perks one would get! The only requirement needed is 1200 posts to be eligible for this position

In all seriosness, I'm sure a script could be written/implemented so that the current winning image could be renamed/uploaded to a specific location, hence just overwriting the old winner...no muss no fuss and no extra work on anyones part... I think I'll go have a look at the home page, being as I've only been there once when I found DPS, maybe i'll find the inspiration I so desperately need..

It should be a fairly simple bit of coding to sort it out so it updates the front page with no extra work for the DPS team and no deleting or overwriting.. Name the photo "week#-year" (For example, this week is week 30, so it would be named "Week30-2011.jpg", save it in the "weeklywinners" folder and get the front page to pick it up.. You could fairly easily get a script to display the contents of that folder on a single page so you can see all the weekly winners, and keep the contents etc in the exif data or just in a table on the database.. Couple of hours coding and voila.. No more hassle..
