Default New D7000 Or Refurbished Canon 7D

I'm kind of torn. I'm in the market for a brand new camera and can't decide between a brand new Nikon D7000 or a refurbished Canon 7D. On one hand the Nikon is new and on the other hand the Canon 7D is one class above the D7000 (am I correct on this?) I can get either one for the same price of $1200 currently. (Don't want to go over $1300 for a body)

Any suggestions? I will be taking pictures within downtown urban areas, mostly during the night time. Want to get into portraits later on so also wondering is there a difference between nikon flash system vs canon?

Suggestions/recommendations are greatly appreciated.

I think in terms of low light performance that they're both pretty much as good as each other. Not sure about the flashes but canon makes sweet glass.

I'm pretty sure that the Nikon's low light performance will be better than the 7D's, being one of the new-generation sony sensors from the back-end of last year... I"m sure Inkista will show up with the good though...

Either way you'll have built-in line-of-sight wireless control, though the Nikon one, I find, is easier to use and manage and is more backwards compatible with older (thus cheaper!) gear.

well one question is do you already have a camera? Is it a Nikon or a Cannon? Do you have any glass for it? If you have Nikon compatible glass, go with the Nikon, and the same with the cannon. If you don't have either, I would go for the Nikon. Newer technology.

I had a Nikon D40, but sold it last year because I actually offered a really good price for it. Now almost a year without a camera has really started bugging me for some reason. I guess D7000 it is. Thanks guys Love this forum.

I have a D7000 and it's superb.. Not sure I'd swap it for a 7d even if the glass wasn't an issue.. Don't forget, with the new product you get the Nikon guarantee..

Of course you could wait a month or so until the d800 is released and then pick up a d700 for this money.

I've had a 7D for just over a year now and at the moment, I would be very reluctant to recommend it to anyone. I've had some focusing issues with this camera right from the word "go" but, as it was my first DSLR, I always believed it to be a user error or as a result of the kit-lens I was using.

I've recently bought a Canon 70 - 200mm f2.8 L lens which is when I realised that the focussing problems I was experiencing was not as a result of anything I did, nor was it the lens.

My friend, who recommended the 7D to me, bought his second one in January this year. His first 7D is brilliant (which is why he recommended I buy it) but with the second one he is experiencing the same focusing problem. The camera front- and back-focuses at will. Two of his friends are experiencing the same thing with their 7Ds.

I took my camera in for repairs two weeks ago, but the problem persists. It's going back again next week.

Taking into account that that the 7D you are considering is a refurbished one, I would be even more reluctant to buy this camera.

I love Canon, but, in your shoes, I would go for the Nikon.
