LOL!
An ultrawides "purpose" is whatever you use it for, it's just another tool. I use it for "perspective", and sometimes for interiors (which would fall under "get it all in" I guess). It's not my preference for scenics (I'd rather stitch a pano), but it's your art. You don't really have to go ultrawide for "depth", but it does make it easier. Tang, For ultrawide I'd go Tokina 11-16 (best of bunch but a bit more) or Sigma 10-20. For general Travel the 18-200 is very nice. It has it's limitations, but I loved mine. I even bought the 28-300 when I moved to FF for the same purpose. I wouldn't buy the primes, but if you want one go with the 35 for "standard" and the 50 for "portraits". I'd actually suggest you don't buy anything and save until you NEED something....eventually I'd suggest selling the kit lenses and adding that money to the savings to buy better base lenses. (the flash isn't a terrible idea either)

It is tbe depth of the ultrawide that i am looking for. Taking it "all in" is more wanting to be able to get all of my foreground subject into the picture to be able to give it depth. The Tokina is an option, but i have read some mixed reviews. While it clarity is better, it lost more in the corners.
The flash is on my list, but i have yet to use the flash on my camera. |

Who cares about the corners?
I can honestly say it almost never matters.
