Default Bargain books - or not (US)

If you're in the market for photography books... or other books...

Borders (US) has announced that they're going out of business. Close-out sales will begin as early as Friday.

Know your prices! The liquidators first un-discount everything, and then discount off of the list price. If you could get a book today for, say 30% off, you should get it today. Chances are that by the time the liquidation reaches the 30% off point, the book will be gone.

People are funny. They see the "xx% off" signs and figure they're getting a deal, so they snap it up even though it was cheaper before the going-out-of-business sale.

But if the book you want is currently being sold at list (cover) price, it makes some sense to wait for the price to come down. Of course, if you wait too long, someone else may snatch it up.

Borders has closed down here in Aus - no wonder, they were far too expensive. I bought photography books on Amazon at a quarter or more less than their prices.

^ Barnes & Noble Member here. I get 10% off everything in the store, including cafe. Even sale items. Get to use my discount on top of any coupons that I have. And if I order a book online, I don't pay any shipping costs, and get the book in 1-3 days. For a $25 yearly fee, and how often I'm there,... it's SO worth it. I'm sure I've almost gotten that back by now, and I haven't even had it that long.

BTW- That's probably one reason Border's went under. They couldnt compete.
