Default Awesome, Awesome Book

I was at the bookstore the other day and saw this book on the shelf, "The Great Life Photographers" put out by Life Magazine. I picked it up to glance through it and it seemed every other page was a photo I remembered. There were 600 pages of incredible shots that i ended up taking home

There is a short bio of each of the almost 100 photographers and there is the kind of depressing part. The photos with the bios show so many of the photographers with range finders and TLRs with no meters. These people actually had to turn a ring or dial to set the aperture, ASA (remember that?), and focus. Now we have cameras that do everything but wipe your butt (at least mine doesn't, maybe if it was a pro model?). It makes you wonder how many today's top level pros could do that.

For you youngsters that never knew the real LIFE magazine, you don't know what you missed.

If you have a chance, check out the book.

Oh my goodness. A few years ago an exhibit (the Magnum photographers) visited our museum and we got to see all those great LIFE photos up close and personal. I remember leafing through those magazine pages from the time I was a small child. Truly inspirational. I must check out the book.

I'll have to check this out, especially since I am a big fan of Gordon Parks. He was a Kansan, too.
