Default Interesting article about Americanisms in Britain

This article is really fascinating and really brings home just how many American words are used by people in Britain today. I talk of colleagues: fellow workers and others call them co-workers, you call a taxi and others call cabs. Even the word "gotten" like "He's gotten a really bad case of acne" (sorry that's the first thing that came to mind).

Have a read:

BBC News - Why do some Americanisms irritate people?

Meh.

We 'borrowed' your entire language. It's only fitting you get some of ours.

Interesting read. I never knew the Brits, who I love, were so sensitive about their English. You'd think that a country that had a global empire not too long ago would have come to relish a broad, diverse language.

Then again, everything I know about the Brits came from Sir David Brent.

The only thing I know are Benny Hill, Dr. Who, and my new fave, Mighty Boosh! Old Gregg is about the funniest thing I have ever seen!

I don't know? I'm just an old southern redneck, but I like the look of "flat" over an apartment. I am so used to seeing "colour" now, it doesn't even "phaze" me.

There are also many words that derive from Greek like unhygenic, comedy, chaos, bacteria and idiot (from the word idiosis).

Benny Hill's a classic! He just has that pervy look about him drooling over skantily clad floosies. My sisters ex husband looked a bit like him in a weird sort of way.
