Why not just use Flickr? Flickr users never have this problem (that I've seen).

Because sometimes you dont want to have to post something to Flickr, just to get it critiqued or seen. Having to go thru all the steps. But thats where you run into issues of file size and file type. DPS needs something like Facebook's thing, that auto resizes. But be able to read different types of files, like the different RAW formats of different cameras, normal jpegs and such, as well as PSD files from Photoshop.

If I'm understanding your question correctly, the short answer is, you can't.

Pictures have to be uploaded to the web somewhere, the internet can't read directly from your computer. There's a lot of technical gobblygook as to why it can't but the short of it is that the Internet works with URLs (Uniform Resource Locator). It's not important to understand the details of URL, suffice it to say it's like a map computers use to direct traffic. In order for the URL traffic cop to find your stuff on the map, it has to be uploaded to the web because the map doesn't contain our local machine stuff, just the traffic on the web.

So you MUST upload your pictures to the web somewhere. From there you can display your images on forums using one of the methods SIME posted links to above. Even if the image displays in a post, technically it is a "link" (they call it a hot link) to the place you uploaded it. If you don't want to upload it to a 3rd party hosting site DPS gives you the option to upload it here and attach as an attachment to a post.

This is not unique to DPS, it applies to the Internet in general.

There is one way to upload a picture straight from your computer. I learned this from another DPS member. Here's how:

1. Upload your attachment.

2. In the "Manage Attachments" box, there is a little space that says, "Current attachments." Your attachment is there. Right click on it, and click on "Copy Link address."

3.Go back to your New Reply page, and click on the "Insert image" button. (It looks like a little landscape.) Right-Click , and click on "Paste." Then hit 'OK.'

Your photo should be in there now. You can then click on the "submit reply" button.
I hope this works for you, and that you could understand me!

But I would still highly recommend using Flickr or another photosharing site instead. It is MUCH easier!

You're welcome. Glad I could help! I hope that works, because I've never posted a picture that way before. So I hope it turns out OK!
