Default My first few shots with DSLR: suggestions and critiques welcome

Hi all,
I have recently discovered that I love taking photographs and have started taking it up more seriously. I invested in a Canon T1i and these are the first few shots I took (with the 18-55 mm kit lens). I am completely new at this, willing to learn fast and therefore welcome any and all suggestions and critiques.
Thank you!

Hi, samutsim. Welcome to DPS

Can i suggest you start over in the critique forum. There are lots of helpful people there. Be sure to read the rules listed at the top of each section.

Thank you for the suggestion. I will do it right away! I am also very new to DPS and am just starting to figure things out. So pardon my ignorance!

Default New Shots

Let me welcome you to the world of photography and DPS. I wish you well in your quest for the perfect picture.

For future reference please review the "how to post" section and do post in the proper area (Critiques or How I Took It). Having a proper posted image with the needed information you can get much better responses to your questions.

About your images. The fallen tree, the doll ostrich in profile and leaf with the water drops on them are your best shots. All the animal photos have major flaws in composition and other issues too. Do not get discouraged.

There are tons of tutorials on this site. Read them and learn your camera. Sign up for the free newsletter, lots of great short articles. Spend some time reviewing others' post/photos. Then go out with the new knowledge and shoot, shoot, shoot! I just started myself in May of this year and the tutroials have been a great help. My shots are improving every day, I no longer shoot in any program mode and I am actually making educated adjustments to apeture, shutter speed and ISO.

Again, please keep it up, but make the effort to learn the craft and your gear. You will be surprised to what you can accomplish! Private mail me for further input or any questions you may have.
