Default Do you move out of the way?

Well, I went to my local parade today and was taking shots and running around. Anyway, I would find a great spot only to have someone tap me on the shoulder saying he can't see from his seat because I am blocking him.

Sure, I am a nice guy and move. However, when I get there first, it makes me mad. I was there and someone came up behind me and asked me to move because his family was next to me. I said it is America and I was here first trying to get some shots and I wouldn't be there long, wait your turn.

Is that proper photographer etiquette, as in staking your territory to get some great shots?

If you were there first, you tell him to buzz off.

Usually it is a little old lady in a wheel chair that is asking for me to move.

Last time this happened I got into a great conversation with her. She had lots of stories to tell and was looking for someone to tell the stories to. This yielded some great candids which you naturally share with them and the occasional coffee clutch meeting. BTW the parade part - I only took about 15 shots of it and felt I missed nothing.

Because I am 6'6" and 285lbs most people don't bother me, they wait. I do move fast though so they would not get to complain very long.

First come, first serve as far as I'm concerned.

I'm not the Incredible Hulk, but I'm not afraid of anyone, especially in such a public place with cops everywhere

I know first come first serve, it just seemed mean as they had family there and it was 4th of July. But I didn't care! Ha!

I try to ignore people for the most part when they do this, as it usually works better than confronting them on how I can charge them with assault for taping me on the shoulder to move.

I'd say first in first served as well. I went to a Clydesdale Horse parade in Dunedin recently, found a good spot to take photos as the horses/wagon approached and no sooner had they appeared than people started stepping out of the crowd to take their photos, completely getting in my shot everytime! Not one person looked around to see if they were blocking anyone. Although later at the Mayoral reception I had two other photographers move aside so my son and I could get in with our cameras. One of them even moved my son(10 yrs) in front of her so he could get a better view.

No bingo for me thanks

The community here is much older than most so this old lady thing should come as no surprise. Our seniors here are as active as possible. My landlord who is 70 works on his own cars for the most part.

The closer I get to it, the younger 70 seems. :-) I agree, if I'm there first, I'm there. But I'll also share the space. After all, how many parade shots do I really need?
