Quite some time ago I gave a name to my addictive personality>
I call it Hand To Mouth Disease ![]() I am addicted to the motion of raising my hand to my mouth--especially if it contains one of the following three things 1. A Long Neck Bottle of Beer 2. A Cigarette 3. Food of Any Kind Numbers 1 and 2 go hand in hand by the way! Until 4 days ago, aside from the very occasional "social" cigarette I would have broken a 1 1/2 a day smoking habit that I developed with the devotion of someone obsessed over a 25 year span. If I would have made it to August 13th it would have been 2 years smoke free. Gradually over the past couple of weeks the "occasional" smoke turned in to quite a few cigarettes bummed off friends until I broke down and bought a pack myself. And you know what, any recovering addict knows better than to do this. I even said to a friend "this is a very dangerous ride I'm on"! Of course if I was in control of the situation I wouldn't have Hand To Mouth Disease. ![]() I simply cannot go back down that road again!! So I have just returned from the mall where I spent $106 bucks on the ECigarette. Yeah, not cheap, but at over $5/pack for smokes, and the certaintity that I will end up coughing up a lung if I start smoking again it seems like a steal. TECECIG I got a bit of a laugh to see a video on the site of David Letterman trying this product out. Soooooooooo, I'm hoping like hell that this will be my medication for this terrible disease I have. Is anyone out there familiar with these? Used something like this? As an ex-addict myself I know where you are coming from..
I'm afraid it took cold turkey to get me off, and I can highly recommend it.. About the only thing my ex-wife did for me was to get me off cigarrettes, and she didn't do it deliberately.. She just said "Oh, you'll never give up", and that made me want to prove little miss know it all wrong.. So I did.. I remember my last cigarrette 10 years ago.. No "Occasional" ones.. I did miss stepping out with my work mates for a cigarrette break, so I stepped out with my friends and drank a coffee while they smoked.. Still got the natter, and got the hand to mouth, just didn't get the nicotine. The withdrawal symptoms went away after a couple of months, and now I've never felt better. Good luck.. I hope you manage to get yourself off.

I still smoke roughly a pack a day now. I quit for 4 years in my 20's. I started back when my ex and I split up. Going to bars and drinking just wasn't the same without a smoke. So, I did the occaisional "friend bum" thing, and within a month I was back up to 2 packs a day. I really want to quit again. Not for my health. It's just too damn expensive!

I Love how you think Zona! Unfortunately after reading the post Lucas put above I have to tell the truth and say I'm much more like him! The only difference is I'm trying like hell not to return back to where I was by "smoking" a Fake. I don;t care if I only use it as a crutch for a couple weeks until I can get myself back together.
I am so very afraid of going back to that! I know in the grand scheme of things 2 years as a non-smoker isn't that long, but in that 2 years time I lost a boat load of weight and trained for a Triathlon, something I never would have been able to do before. I'm very afraid of losing the lung capacity I finally have back! I don't know, I think I went out and bought the stupid ECig because I know I have 3 different parties to attend over the next few days and figured it was better than smoking 3 packs of cigarettes during that time. Even if I end up throwing it away (the ECig) it won't be the first time I've pissed away $100 bucks..... |

I'm a smoker myself, and I feel you. I've actually thought about getting one of those myself. My brother bought one, and I think it lasted about a month as a "crutch." He's back to smoking the real thing now.
![]() Good luck, though. I keep saying I'm going to quit myself, and I'd love to, but apparently I don't have the will power yet....

LoL..
Stick with the ECig or whatever it is.. A cigarrette is a crutch too.. This one's just less harmful.. You bought it because you needed to buy something.. Thank god it wasn't a pack of ciggies. And if you manage to give up because of it, it's not a waste of $100... Certainly no more than 20 smokes that you just burn. Keep going at it..
