Default Ignorant people piss me off!!!!

I went to the supermarket early and somehow manage to find a handicap space to park in, so I get out of my car and walk in and get my buggy and as I turn around to enter the store this lady stops me and says "Can I ask you a question?" I said 'yeah' and she asks " Are you picking someone up?" ok at this point I am a little confused and I say 'Uhhhmmm no" and then she says " Well aren't you ashamed to be taking up a handicap space then?" WOW I was so pissed and wanted to say lots of things but manage to just say "Not really since it is MY handicap tag and I have is because I have MS and Scoliosis " and I just walked away.

Like what cause I am young and don't have a body part missing or something I can't be handicapped, I just borrow my grandma's car so I don't have to walk far to get in the store?

Maybe she can get a tag for her ignorance one with a little duece cap on it or something.

Its not the people who challenge my Hcap tag that piss me off. It the damn motorcycles who think stupidity is a handicap and park in the yellow around them. Makes me want to ram them over and drag them.

BTW: mine is for a crush injury to my right foot. I have good days I have bad days sometime I limp sometimes I dont.

People are stupid.

My Mom has a handicapped rear view mirror hanger because she has back problems. She only uses it when shes not feeling that great that day, but still. I usually look to see if someone at least has a hanger tag or disabled tag on their car.

I'm torn on this issue. I have Muscular Dystrohpy and have had a tag for 3 years. I'm 44 now and since I have no "outward" sign other than walking slow (so I don't fall on my face) I get dirty looks and feel just like you do, Ambrosia.

However, I see people take a handicap spot that you know have no disability (jumping out of the car and literally running in to the store) and are using someone else's tag or just don't have one all together. I'd like to string up these people my their toes.

On a side note, my daughter gets mad at me because if I'm not going in wherever we are I won't park in a handicap spot and make her walk, lol.

Curious, has anyone ever seen a police officer talk to/ticket someone parked in a spot illegally? Have to say I haven't.

Back when I was full of piss and vinegar, I had a customer park in a handicapped space at work. (He wasn't handicapped). When he came in, I asked him if he wanted me to break his legs. He just looked at me with a puzzled face, and said "Huh?", "Why?" I said, "so you will have a reason to park there." He went and moved his car. Came back in and bought some stuff. LOL! He must have thought I was insane. He was known in the area for not being a very upstanding guy. And that's putting it nicely.

Don't get me wrong, but I admire the woman who confronted you on this. Apparently she assumed (incorrectly) that to her, you did not require a handicap space. I have seen illegimate users of these spaces and I confront them. I understand the frustration of not being able to find a handicap space as I often need to take my handicapped mother to various places.

I sorry you were confronted and I understand where you are coming from, but in all fairness, this person is looking out for people such as yourself and, after explaining your situation, you could have even thanked her for it.

Or perhaps you could just look at it like she is looking out for people who really need the spot. Imagine if the spot wasn't there for you because some faker had taken the spot? In her mind she was doing a good deed.

Now I know I'll get creamed for this but.... did you really need that spot? I mean if you're ok to walk around the grocery store pushing a cart around then surely you can walk a few extra feet to your car. I feel the same way about the "Expectant Moms" spots they have at our local mall. These woman can walk ALL AROUND the mall but they can't walk maybe 50 extra feet to their car? Pahhhleeze!

I think the feeling is, if you are able bodied enough to walk around a store without a cane or wheelchair or walker then perhaps you are also able bodied enough to walk a few extra feet to your car.

Sorry if that offends you but it's how I feel. Oh and I have a sister in law with MS, unfortunately she is at the stage where she has to use a wheelchair.

Yes actually. Back in the Chicago suburbs where my parents live. There is one particular cop who makes a habit of going through all the parking lots in town regularly and checking all of the handicap parking spaces. I guess his wife is handicapped and he is annoyed when she goes to the store and has to park far away because people used all the spaced for no reason. She has MS I think and walks with two cane things.

You can see how much he loves writing the tickets to them for parking there. I guess after he puts the ticket on the car, if they don't move within 60 or 90 minutes or something like that, he can give them another one. A guy parked in one of the spots while at work for 10 hours and came out to 6 tickets at $200 each. Ouch!

I agree wholeheartedly. If you are not visibly impaired you should look at it like the person isn't accusing you, just making sure the spot is there for those that truly need it. There is no need for the anger and venom. And she wasn't ignorant of anything as she couldn't readily see that you are handicapped.
