Default UWA lens

What's the point of having a Tokina 11-16mm lens when you live in the city, with a lack of open spaces ?

Thoughts ?

I have that lens and I don't only shoot open spaces with it. You can get some interesting perspectives with that lens on people, plants and yes, even buildings. Are there parks in that city? you have space there. Ever go to the top of any of those buildings? lots of space there. You could shoot a building from close up, angle the lens up a bit and get the entire building in one shot. Yes the building will look crazy tall, but someone may want that style of shot. You could go to a party and want to get a shot of the whole room and what is going on.... The list goes on and on and on. a wide angle lens isn't just for landscape photography...

I don't use my UWA (Canon 17-40mm on a full frame) for landscapes...I use it for portraits.

I don't have the exif for this but it would have been around 12mm on a 1.6 crop camera.

You may find this multi part tute on lenses of interes. It's on on DPS.

UWA lenses are designed to hlep make small spaces appear larger. See:

That's miniscule. From the water at the bottom right to the rock peak at the top left MIGHT be 8 or 9 INCHES.
