Default Lens adaptors..

Now I'm beginning to think I'm batting for the other side.. Or maybe not..

I know it's possible to get an F mount adaptor to allow you to mount a Nikkor lens onto a Canon, but is it possible to get something that goes the other way round? So I can put a Canon mount lens onto a Nikon body?

Not really. The mount flange-to-image-plane distance is key in getting the lens to focus to infinity. If you increase it, you limit the focus distance (think extension tubes).

Nikon's F-mount's registration distance is 46.5mm.
Canon EOS is 44mm.

So to get a Canon lens to focus to infinity on a Nikon camera, you have to shave 2.5mm off the back of the lens somehow, without having the back element of the lens whack into your mirror. OR, you have to use an adapter that acts like a teleconverter to increase the focal length so the lens can sit farther away than it normally does. And if it's cheap, that means cheap glass and image quality goes down.

Also, EOS lenses are all like Nikon G lenses: no aperture ring. Without electronic communication between the lens and the body, there's no way to control the aperture, unless you rig up some mechanical way of doing it, and at that point, you begin to wonder why you bothered.

The reason the F -> EOS adapters work is that you can easily make an adapter ring that's 2.5mm thick. And a lot of F-mount lenses still have aperture rings.

On Canon EOS, adapting an Olympus OM, Leica-R, or Contax/Yashica Zeiss lens is simply a matter of putting an adapter ring on the lens. With Nikon F, it means modification of the lens mount. Luckily, Leitax makes kits for this.

Now, why would you want to do that? Nikon lenses focus backasswards and the glass lenses are made from discarded Sapporo beer bottles.

Just do the right thing and ditch them both and get a Pentax.

LoL.. I'm not ditching anything.. I just saw a Canon mount Sigma 150-500 in the local second hand shop for a decent price.. It's been there for a couple of months.. Obviously there aren't any Canon users in Switzerland.

I think I'll stick with the Nikon.. Who wants to buy a camera off a printer manufacturer!
