I just knew I'd get a response like that from you.

That's the reason I don't do stock.... it's worthless.

Besides, I work in an industry that can't get stock photography... So it's a win-win for the consumer (editor) and the producer (me), they get exactly what they want and I get a reasonable wage for it.

The business of image creation is just like any other business. If you don't protect your lunch it will get eaten...

With the drop out rates going to near 100% it won't take long for the commercial end user to dry up the available images and then the creators will be back in the driver seat. Hopefully with the foreknowledge of how the game is played and will protect their product with pitbull tenacity. But somehow I doubt it. Artists are doomed to starve unless they are business first.

The idea of shooting stock makes me feel dirty inside.

Really long article...here's the summary:

"Stock photography used to be profitable. Now it isn't, so the pros whine."

Every time I read an article like this, I like to pretend that it's being narrated by Andy Rooney.
