Default AMP HDR Video Camera

Well I can imagine this will invite some debate, and some HDR hate along with it, but I thought this was a pretty interesting story myself.

AMP camera records 1080p HDR video, you probably can't have one -- Engadget

The first video is full of a lot of overprocessed "bad" HDR tonemaps, while the second I think shows a lot more realistic examples. Since the tonemapping is customizable, you could theoretically get some really good results out of something like this.

Its quite interesting isn't. I have dabbled in HDR (Not video) so to achieve realtime HDR video is amazing. The marvels of modern science.

Thanks for sharing.

Cheers,

Heh, it'll come, just wait.

Eh, I can sympathize to a point, there's a lot of crappy over-processed HDR out there. I try to keep mine reasonable, but sometimes it's hard to tell.

Seriously though, with this and Lytro, it's a pretty freaking interesting technological time for imaging.

jesus christ on a pogo stick.

No thanks.

HDR has it's place. It's an effect. It's NOT something for the every day. Good god.

Ah, there you are! We've been waiting.

Haha, it's a matter of opinion I guess, but tastefully done (which is admittedly rare) and in the right situation, HDR is a solution to a problem. There's no reason to have an overexposed sky if it's not necessary, and, while you could carry a GND filter, that's not the be all, end all solution, especially if there are protrusions into the sky (trees, buildings, etc.)

That said, I assume 90% of the examples you'll see once this thing hits the market are oversaturated, stylized crap.

I agree. I think of this like an IR only camera. Gets real old real fast. Besides HDR effects can be done to video in PP just like still images. I dont think the HDR camera will ever go anywhere.

What if you use it to shoot HD video and stills simultaneously?
