You're aren't wrong Faerie.. But...
The 2.8 I have does not have a lens foot, which means I have to attach any tripod/monopod fitting to the front of the camera. This concerns me that I've got a 1.2kg lens hanging off the front of the camera, putting strain on the connection and camera body. Not really practical for a monopod, and a bit of a strain on the tripod. Also, whilst Landscape photography is likely to remain my main love, I want to get into something else as well. I have to admit that wile I really enjoy going off with the dog up the mountains, it gets a bit lonely at times, and I miss the company of humans. So I'm looking to find a lens that will give me the options I need.. I know the 70-200 isn't the ideal portrait lens, but the 105 limits me more.. I'm really wondering if I should trade off or not, and whether the VR version is that much better. I don't want to increase the ISO, I already occasionally shoot at 1600 and that introduces noticeable noise, If the VR is really any better then it's probably going to be that. I have found a VR1, and placed a bid on it.. We'll see if I win that. @ Indigo.. I'd certainly love this Hasselblad.. It's beautiful.. But really I don't feel I'm ready for it..

Jon, for the 80-200 2.8 you can get a tripod frame (lens collar) from Kirk Enterprises in the US. I got one for mine and leave it on even when not using a tripod. Well made, solid and works great. Kirk Enterprises : Quality Photographic Equipment for Outdoor & Nature Photography
