Default Surgery sucks!

Weds I had an umbilical hernia repaired via open surgery with a mesh installed. Never felt pain and discomfort like this before. Add to that three days of total consipation and I have not felt like taking a single picture

Well that sucks. I do mean the pain and all. I would hope they gave you some nice meds for it all.

Get well soon Kirb

Hey Kirb. My husband had the exact same surgery a few years ago. The first few days he was miserable, but he recovered pretty quickly after that. He said it was almost like a switch being turned - one night he still felt like crap after several days, the next morning he felt a LOT better; the pain had gone WAY down and the, err..."action" had improved greatly. Hope it's that way for you, too. Sending good wishes your way for a speedy recovery.

Oh, and try Colace. Miracle drug for what you're going through. TMI for some, just wanted to throw it out there! If they gave you Percocet or Vicodin, it's likely to make that particular problem worse.

My hubby had that surgery, they completely removed his bellybutton, and removed a cyst from the bottom of his spine during the same surgery. I asked if they could do both at once,I figure why pay for 2 separate surgeries if I could get a 2 for one. Hubby didn't much appreciate it.He hated me for a while, he had to lay on his side for like 2 weeks cause his front and his back hurt.

On a funny note Granddaughter has learned body parts and the other day she showed us her belly button then went up to hubby, looked strangely at his stomach for a minute then said "Papa no belly button?" then tried to pull off part of hers to give to him.

My husband is the same. His surgeon said he'd be like Adam from the Bible, lol. My hubby's was so severe his navel was HUGE. My son was still a little boy when he had it done, and he swore the surgeon stole his Daddy's belly button to use as a doorknob somewhere.

Again, there I go again with TMI.

Had mine done about six years ago. Now I have a smiley face directly under my belly button. I can still feel the gauze reinforcement. i think they used fly wire screen.

My thoughts are with you. You'll be doing sit ups soon.

Cheers,

Ok,..so I had to look this up because I've never even heard of such a thing. Upon reading a couple different sites, one being WebMD, it says that this generally an issue that occurs in infants. Seeing as there are 4 mentions of adult males having this issue, I think this proves that all men are just big babies.

( I know women can get it too. )

Hope you feel better soon Kirb. Go get you some Sun Sweet Ones. Or swallow a tablespoon of mineral oil.

I win. My hubby went through the same surgery. I became Nurse Ratchet after being nice for the allocated time and I heard one too many whines after he'd healed up nicely.

Back to Kirb's post....sorry for the bitchfest.
