simple terms -
point light - is a single point of light - think of a star way up high - or what happens when you view a lightbulb from really far away. When you are closer it is too big to be a "point" Parallel light - is multiple rays of light coming in together, parallel to each other - this only happens when you are far away from something - think of a flashlight - it tries to put its light into a column - but it invariably spreads out. If you are far away from it - the light rays that are still reaching you are pretty much all coming towards you and all parallel to eachother. Lasers emit pretty parallel light. Parallel light is a pretty common condition for solving "ideal" problems in optics for very simplified things - like properties of a simple lens |
