Default Brilliant idea

No it is a stolen idea.

We have our assignments that some of us do here. How about we do a weekly edit a RAW file submitted by someone in the DPS community? Some of us do not submit pictures to the sys threads but we have mad editing skills. I think this would be something the community as a whole would benefit from. It would show us different way of looking at our prospective edit choices.

What do you guys think? Seriously..............

I have web hosting that has unlimited bandwidth and space so I could host the files if space and accessibility was a big deal. I could even set up a mod with a master FTP account for the storage folder.

Can you tell that I really want to do this?

Jared Polin does it on the Fro Knows Photo forum and it's a cool concept. The only downside I can see is the extra workload put on the mods to select a RAW candidate.

Individual users could always post their own files in the "Post processing" section to get help, although they might have to use something like Dropbox to host the RAW files, since I don't think the forum will take a file of that size or extension as an attachment.

You mean we only upload the finished edits so everyone can see the end results or we upload the psd files, so they can see the process? I think the first option could be interesting because of all the different perspectives and preferences we have, and the second one would be more of a learning tool.

I propose we do it just like Jared does it. We all edit the same RAW file and then post the jpeg finals on here. I agree that this would give people many different perspectives on the same image. Plus it would help the newer players in the craft with seeing the editing choices others take.

I think a simple "Processed in LR or PS or even Gimp",,, I think gimp can do it would be the only comment needed but naturally we would expound a little on our editing choices.

Over in the games forum we had something like it going for a while. We got up to somewhere in the hundreds. If someone wants to take it up and be responsible for posting it you're more than welcome (and it'd be more than welcome in the games / challenges section)

Are you saying start a totally new thread for this type of thing? I am confused, but then again I am always confused. I do welcome other ideas from people as I am already lost on how to do this

lol Don't worry, I'm probably confusing today.

The way we did it in the past was that we started a new thread each week. The image was in the first post (though if you're using a RAW image you'd probably just have the link unless you want to post a jpg of it too). That way each week is in it's own thread.

Here's an example of one of the threads: What Would You Do? 140

The real trick is actually getting enough momentum that you get photos week after week. I ran it for a while and so did Windrider.
