Default Need to Convert 35mm Slides to Digital

I have 100's to 1000's of slides to convert. Scanners are out there, but they do 1 at a time. I've seen (don't recall where) DIY set-ups whereby you take a photo of the slide with a light source behind.

Any tips?

Thanks,

Tim

Bhursey: Thanks. I took a look at the specs. but not sure of a couple of things. How large of a file will this convert slides to? I'm looking for as large as possible = 12 MPs or more. Also, it saves as jpegs? Not raw? How did you handle white balance correction?

Thx for the info.

Color balance ------ photoshop
I have a Canoscan FS 4000 USB and it scans the slides into Tiffs, which I can convert into jpegs later.
It's better to scan to one at a time. I've been scanning my slide and negative archive (75,000)
since 2001, when I have the time. Just edit down to your very best images and take the time in the evening or whenever instead of watching TV. Hell, I even have a tv in my office and sometimes watch a dvd or read a book. It's take a while to scan in a high res image, might as do something useful in the meantime.

It saves to raw uncompressed Tiff will save to compressed jpeg, png, pdf. It will scan much larger than 12mp on a slide size. I researched for a year to pick a scanner and this was it.. Lets just put it this way. if I scan at the full resolution it scans its to large of a file to deal with. It is 6400dpi optical. The thing I love is it uses ready scan technology so I don't have to wait for it to warm up..

Jim - that looks awesome - probably way beyond what I need/can afford!
Bhursey - 2 quick questions on the Epson:

If you scan 4 slides at once, is resolution reduced? (I.e., can you only get full res. if you do one at a time?)

How long does it take to cycle 4 slides?

Thanks,

Tim
