Unhappy Newbie's Block

First things first I'm a newbie and I purchased a DSLR about 3 months ago. I did so because I have always loved photography and had wanted to take it up as a serious hobby, more for myself than anything else. However, I find myself in a bit of a rut, I really do want to get into this but I haven't taken many pics and what I mostly ask myself is, what should I take pictures of? Sometimes I come up with a few ideas but then I dismiss them cause I think they're boring and not interesting or creative enough. I have read a a lot and the web also offers a lot of helpful websites and videos but I also feel that I need a more hands on guide. I'm thinking of taking a class soon and hoping this inspires and helps me develop a bit more into this hobby. So having said all that I'd really appreciate and advice or tips anyone can give me, thanks.

Take pictures of anything and everything. Who gives a turkey if someone else thinks it's boring? As you experiment, you'll probably find yourself drawn to one particular genre.

Portrait photography, namely kids, families and babies, is my favorite, and it's what I get paid to do. However, I still enjoy nature photography, landscapes, etc. and I do that stuff just for me.

Take pictures of things you like; try to make them interesting by shooting from different angles, changing your point of view, blurring the background, etc, etc. Use your imagination.

you can take pictures of your family, the park.. yes, it might be boring in the sense that it's not revolutionary but this way you'll get comfortable with your camera.
a class is not a bad idea cause it will take you out and give you assignments.
and of course, there's the option of taking a walk around town and shooting.. nothing like a city walk in B&W

Default Thanks

"Who gives a turkey if someone else thinks it's boring?" xD too funny and thanks for the tips and advice guys, appreciate it. I find that nature, wildlife and animal photography is what mostly draws my attention; also portrait and candid also seem very interesting and I like it too but I seem to lack confidence for it >.<

I used to be terrified of portrait photography, even though I was drawn to it. As you do more and more of it, you'll get more comfortable and your confidence will increase.
