It's a plecostomus of some sort. There are a variety of colour morphs and some subspecies.

How big is your tank and what else do you have in it?

And when are you setting up your NEXT tank?

Yep, that's some flavor of pl*co alright! They can get BIG...

Hi Billy and WPCatfish... wow... you're right... i just read up on the fish and it seems that it can get quite big... up to 2 feet long! i'm now quite embarrassed to say that it's living in a mini aquarium of just about 10 gallon / 25 liters..

i'll be moving house in 4 months time though and planning to build a bigger aquarium there if all the fishes survives in the small aquarium...

i have 2 black ghost knife fish,

2 of these aggressive, the *ss of the aquarium who likes to keep chasing everything else around.. but no idea of what it is

2 of these yellow lemon thingy... who got chased by the blue fish and in return takes revenge on the small fish below

sorry for the slight out of focus... they are meant to be snaps to help identify the fish

and 4 of these sumatran tiger fish who gets bullied by the blue and the yellow... kinda pity them... but they like to stick together and are quite agile in avoiding the bites of the other 2 fishes... so far i didn't see any bite marks or fins getting torn

that's it

Catfish: Thanx for the link... i'll take a look at that site asap!

TravisL... just did my first maintance yesterday and it's quite a mess trying to learn how to use the vaccum pump (didn't realise you have to dip it quite deep to get the water flowing... and the change in water... these fishes really sh*t a lot!

The a** is a cichlid...pretty sure the second yellow one is too... th last one is a barb.. first lesson i learned is to find out which species live together without eating each other. I gave up on cichlids and ended up keeping Oscars.

as for your plec, I'm pretty sure back in the day I learned that many species' growth will be affected by the size of their environment (in this case, a tank), so you won't end up with a 15lb monster in a cup of water...

...I may be wrong though. I switched from fish to snakes about 10 years ago.

my advice for your aquarium hobby is get rid of the 10gal as fast as you possibly can, because 10gallons are THE. WORST. there is ZERO room for error.

what you've got is a very aggressive mix of fish, in a very small space. don't expect them to live very long.

the general rule for aquariums is 1 square inch of fish per gallon of water.

read up on cycling an aquarium. i'm sure you will find many sites that will help you along, there is sooooooooo much to learn about aquariums, but they are very fascinating once you know what you're doing and can keep fish alive for more than a few weeks, lol.

Hey Niresangwa,

good news: i found the yellow cichlid: Lemon cichlid, Lemon Lamprologus
bad news: Compatibility: Not for the community tank, keep with similar Tanganyikan cichlids.

another bad news: there's LOTS of cichlids! still can't find the blue one... had several close... but not really sure it is them... jack dempsey cichlid... the behavior is aggressive as well..

katia: i have no clue what i'm getting into when buying the fishes... my wife is the one who likes it... but she doesn't read up on anything about fish keeping... she loves the black ghost... which i think is also an aggressive fish (though not as much as the *ss it seems)...so the rest is kinda chosen so that they wont get eaten by the black ghost...

i've only read up about 10 gal being the worst and hardest aquarium to keep after getting it... and plus i have no space for bigger aquarium right now... so i guess it's a test to see if i can keep all the fishes alive by 4 months... if i do, then i can get a bigger aquarium when we moved to the new home

thanx all... i think i'm getting more help here than another random fish forum i joined last night! lol!
