Default Ideas please..

This might nt be the right place for this, I'm sure the mods will move it if it needs to be.

A friend of mine has recently been through a really shitty time, I don't want to go into details because they only confided in me.. They're beginning to work their way through it, but I want to take a photograph as a present for them. I'm after a photo that says "Healing", "getting better", "friendship", "coming home" and "safety" it shouldn't be something cliche'd, like nurses or something as it's more of an emtional healing they're doing.. I'd like something a little unusual that speaks to them..

Now I don't want to plagerise but I'd really appeciate some ideas. This is a personal present from me to them, it's something I want to put some effort into, I'm not going to make any money from it, it's just something to say "I'm here". I don't know where to start. Normally I'm a landscape photographer, but I'll try anything, I just want some ideas. Feel free to post your own photos to give me ideas.. When I eventually take it, I'll post the photo here for you to see.

The first thing that comes to mind for me is a candle in the dark. Hope, all is not lost, that kind of thing. I dunno. That's a tough one.

My dog was first thing I thought of when I read the description of what you want to convey. He's so excited when I come home every day that I can't help but smile, no matter how my day has been.

If you aren't fortunate enough to know what I'm talking about first hand, this video conveys the feeling pretty nicely.

First thing I thought of was a really beautiful tree shot. Trees remind me of strength and longevity and shelter. If you could get lucky enough to find one you like and capture it with a sunrise?? That might be just the thing....

Everything I think of sounds like a cliche, so I searched around on Google Images. How about something like this (in your own words, of course)?

A tiny sprouting of a tree or flower in the forest bent over from the weight of dew on its delicate leaves with a helping gentle hand to raise it up and the rays of the sun shining through the branches of the great trees around it to light its way

Lori said exactly what I was thinking!. A small flower growing out of an impossible place. Or a weathered grizzled gnarled tree growing out the side of a rock edifice. The message of never give up.

Jon - I think you've got some landscape shots that would work as well as anything else for this. There's a sense of proportion and peace in a good landscape photo, and you've got some good ones. Honestly, you're pretty likely to run into "cliche" with just about any photo -- a thousand greeting card writers have been working that market for a while now. I think it's important to remember that the gift isn't *just* about the photo, though, so whatever conveys those thoughts for you is the right choice, IMO.

Speaking of cliche, I'll offer greeting card #46: Light beams through the clouds.
