I think the title of this thread says most of it, but I've been asked to come up with some assignments for 6th grade students at the private school I'm volunteering at that can be used in their Reading (aka, literature) class. I'm trying to come up with assignments that correlate somehow to their Reading textbook. The textbook (which you can see here: Reading 6: As Full as the World Student Text (2nd ed.) | BJU Press) is divided into themes, so I thought I'd at least come up with an assignment for each theme. So far, I've got:
Perspectives Each student picks a single subject (a specific building, a flower, a person, etc.) and take x-number of photos of that single subject from various angles/perspectives. Using the photos they took, the students can then write a piece (a few paragraphs, a page, etc.) about how simply changing perspective can make something appear entirely different, and how that concept can be applied in their everyday lives. Victories Ventures Each student writes a short story about a character taking a venture (a risk, trying something new, etc.) Each student then takes a series of photographs (maybe 3 or 5 photos?) illustrating various parts of the venture in their story. Extravaganzas Each student thinks of the most extravagant thing they can imagine (a luxury car, a huge house, a private island, etc.) and finds a single photo that portrays the extravagance of that particular thing. Each student then writes why this photo exemplifies the extravagance of the item/idea they thought of. Distant Realms Overcomers As you can see, there's still several themes with no assignments yet (and I don't think the "Extravaganzas" assignment really fits with the actual theme that well) Anyone have any ideas for other assignments I could use?? Also, another thought is that the teacher might, throughout the year, highlight certain types of writing (like poetry, short story, etc.) so maybe I could come up with assignments for the various types of writing. All thoughts/ideas would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!
