I live only about an hour and a half from NYC and have been there gazillions of times, and funnily enough I haven't seen a bunch of stuff on this site, lol. It's got really good recommendations though: http://www.virtualtourist.com/travel...ty-TG-C-1.html

I live in the Bronx , Central Park , look for Belvedere Castle it's a good start, the whole park is great , give yourself time there as you won't want to leave. Times Square at night with the pedestrian mall is brilliant, The High Line The High Line one of the best things to happen in the city , great foresight by the people responsible. this The Cathedral Church of Saint John the Divine

There's a great sex shop at the bottom end of Times Square (I think). Facing south, to the right of you would be a huge square hole in the ground with steps on all sides. I think there's shops around the edges once you're down there. Anyway, standing there, looking south, I believe it's just there. Chinese dude inside, free batteries, rubber arms and what not by the counter and 4 red curtains at the back.
.. certainly was an experience. Anyone here from NYC? I've been trying to find loads of places on google maps for the last 8 years

If you like Mexican food, and find the Luchador culture fascinating. Go to La Lucha, it's a good taco place inside a fascinating looking restaurant..

Subways, try Union Square (14 St & Broadway) on the 4,5,6 Platform. Going to either the north bound or south bound platform gives a nice shot as the train comes around a bend. Beaware....it's HOT down there. You can take the uptown #6 to 33rd St, and then walk across 33rd towards the Empire State Building, and I believe you'll be in the neighborhood of Macy's where the Thanksgiving Parade is held. For food, my personal favorite is WoHop which is at 15 Mott St in Chinatown and that place is open 24 hours! There's an upstairs restaurant, and a downstairs one....go down! Food is GREAT there. City Hall and the City Hall park is a nice place as well to shoot. From City Hall, if you wait for the Golden hour, you can walk acorss the Brooklyn Bridge and have one helluva view of lower Manhattan at sunset, as well as a shot of the Statue of Liberty. For the record, City Hall is a very short walk to the Brooklyn Bridge. All of what I mention can be handled in about 6 hours. The below quoted post mentioning the NYC Library is at 40th St I believe. The two statued lions "guarding" the library are often shot! Quote:

Back home, completely pooped - it was awesome!! My girlfriend and I spent the entire time walking, cabbing and photographing many of your suggestions. (I'm saving the list for my next visit!!!).
I didn't get everyone's ideas before I left, if I had I would have tried harder to squeeze a little more in because it all sounds so good!! Thank you again for the great ideas and for taking the time to send them my way! I'm just now getting the photos onto my computer and it is going to take a while as there are an embarassingly large amount to wade through and I'm heading out of town (aka away from computer) for the next week so it will take me a little while to post some pix from the trip, but I think I got a few good ones so I'm excited to share. I managed to get to Central Park and though I missed the Castle, I did see the Bethesda Arcade which was also lovely, we hit the observation deck of the Empire State Building at night, the Chrysler Building lobby, Grand Central Station, Times Square at night, the Metropolitan Museum of Art's rooftop exhibit which had a really great perspective of the city - not to mention an Ancient Egypt exhibit that was seriously impressive (I didn't see anything in there that wasn't seriously impressive), a trip to the mecca - the B&H Superstore, and even a short walk along the High Line. We did some walking through a neighborhood or two and shot via cab window on a rainy afternoon - yeah...it was all pretty great!! Thanks again everyone!! P.S. Biomech, I couldn't find the shop you described, but you did win the Most Interesting Suggestion Award!! (Rubber arms - seriously?????!!!!!!!!!) Congratulations!!! |
