I'm going on my holibobs in 10 days time and I will take masses of photos. Question is should I shoot RAW or Jpeg just to save space? I always shoot RAW normally but just want some advice on what you normally do.
I will be shooting primarily with a Canon 550D and a Tamron 28-300 lens and I'll take the 50mm 1.8 just in case (I don't like that lens as a rule). I have an underwater camera too and I have heard that bright midday sun is ideal to shoot underwater. The canon d10 only shoot jpeg anyway so that's not a problem. I'm also taking my Canon powershot so all bases will be covered lol!

For me topic is everything. I shoot RAW only in important events or subjects and low light or a combination of the these. With that said I am usually a Jpeg shooter. I would have to say that holiday pictures fall in the Jpeg realm unless you are intentionally planning to do an hdr or you are setting up for an early morning sunrise and so on.
Just pick them on a case by case basis is my suggestion.

That's a good idea doing it case by case. I take pics of EVERTHING from pretty flowers baskets hanging outside someone's house, the locals going about their everyday lives, markets, swimming pool shots, excursions to monisteries and ruins, candid family snapshots, the compulsary cocktail, even a large glass of different fancy icecream. you name it!!

you are really bringing all of that equipment on vacation?
I must say, on the last vacation I took I decided to take things "lighter" and just brought a pocket camera. it was fun, light and I could take it with me where ever I go with out carrying a 20 pounds backpack on my shoulders. unless I'm taking a trip to an exotic location such as Tanzania or Nepal.. a good pocket camera will do the trick. as for your question, it depends on your work process. if you intend to sit and edit those photos, shoot RAW. if you just want them for memories and intend to save them SOC, then shoot JPG. and the most important thing, have fun!

Always RAW, unless I hand my camera to my partner and then it will be in auto.

There's a reason I carry 20GB with me at all times and it's not because I need to. Vacations are the only time I use all of it.
