Default Does anyone use

Filters during shoots? If so which ones do you use the most? I have a set with filters for UV, flourescent lights and such and I also have a set of macro filters which my D3000 doesn't seem to "like", it won't take pics unless it is in bright light even with my apeture wide open.

Any advice on the use of them would be appreciated!

The only filter I find myself using on a regualr basis is a ND Filter when outdoors in strong sunlight.

A circular polarizer for reducing glare off non-metallic surfaces and a graduated neutral density filter. A cheap UV filter can degrade your image quality and you should be able to adjust your white balance for flourescent/tungsten lighting.

UV and circular polarizer, made by B+W or Canon. They are expensive, but it's high quality glass and not a cheap plastic filter.

I use a polarizer from time to time to get awesome skies or if I'm shooting sports around water. My main issue is that I'm really bad with my filters and wedge them in my pocket when I'm not using them. Scratches ruin them.....

CPL, ND6 and ND10 glass filters by B&W, 0.3, 0.6, 0.9 ND Grad square resin filters by HiTech. The resin filters scratch easily, so keep them tucked away when not in use.. The Glass filters by B&W seem to be indestructable.. I've dropped them onto rock from full height tripod (5'6" ish) several times without breaking them.

The only one of these that appears to have a colour cast is the ND10 by B&W, but it's easily removed in PP, and I knew it had this issue when I bought it.

All good.. The hi-techs aren't too expensive either.. The CPL, you get what you pay for.. Cheap ones will do more harm than good.

Don't know about your macro filter though.. Maybe it's a known problem.. Have you looked it up here?

I have a Hoya HMC UV filter which I bought mostly for protection but I keep it off my lens more and more often lately. Besides that, I have a Kenko Pro 1D CPL which I find great on clear weather or when shooting something reflective. Also, I have a set of Hitech ND grads (85mm series) : 0.6 soft, 0.9 soft, 0.9 hard and a solid 0.9 ND.
