Question Small camera advise

Hi everyone!
So I need some advise. I am looking into buying a new pocketsized (well, purse sized) digital camera for those moments when I still would like to capture a great image without having to lug around my big one.

Now, there are about a billion small digital cameras out there, and to be honest I don't really like how some of them take pictures. My parents recently bought a "mac daddy do everything for you" one, and I don't really like the pictures it takes. I would still like to be able to have a little manual control.

So what do you guys use? Are any of you really happy with yours? I'm looking to spend not more than $300. Thanks in advance for any tips!!

Cheers,
Tonya

I haven't really been that impressed with the picture quality of any point and shoot I've used especially after using a DLSR in that price range your looking at. What features are most important to you besides having some manual control? Is there a brand you want to stick with such as a professional Canon camera or a toy camera like Nikon

Depending on the features you need, and how much you wanna spend...

Haha, well, I am a Nikon girl normally , but I don't mind switching brands. I know its not gonna compare to my d700, but something that takes better photos than what I have now for a P&S.

Ideally I would like to spend around 300, but if you guys have some good suggestions of ones you have used and liked, throw it out there. In my perfect world I would buy the new Fuji X100, haha...but for now I would like something more in my price range.

As far as features, I suppose somethings I dislike about mine is it's very poor low light usage and the colors are very off. So just something that is a bit better in low light and take nice photos. Thanks!!!

You might have better results with a P&S that does RAW. What camera do you currently have? I'm not aware of any P&S that perform great under low light with out the use of a flash. I haven't looked at the P&S market in sometime now so things could be diffrent now. Size can also be an important purchase decession. Is this something you have to fit into a pocket?

BTW nice yellow shoes.

From what youve told me, see if you cant still get your hands on a Samsung EX1. There are none left here, but B&H still has them listed. They're great little cameras with great screens, good low-light characteristics and RAW support.

Great suggestion, that looks about what I would be looking for! I am going to research a bit more and see what I end up getting.

Thanks so much for the suggestions everyone, if I find a great one I will definitely let you guys know!
