Default Frustrating....

not having anyone around I decided to play with some self portait work in my studio space, to practice lighting etc...

So...I got the space, I got the lights, backdrop all set up, camera on the tripod and a handy dandy remote in my hand and I'm ready to go...

set the lights in positions and levels where I think they will work well, set the exposure etc and snap a shot....

get up go around and check it, adjust lights, reseat myself and try again...

rinse and repeat...

the pc I use for processing and editing is in another room and I don't have a laptop...I do have an ipad though...

is there someway anyone knows that I can rig up a preview so I don't have to go around to the back of the camera every time?

I'm pretty sure most of the modern Nikon DSLRs have video output either to a TV or HDMI for a monitor/flat panel TV display. I can only imagine the Canon line has something similar.

You could also do tethered shooting where your shots get captured into something like Capture One or Lightroom and turn the monitor in a way where you can see it from your seating position.

If you have your camera tethered to the computer, you could use something like the OnOne DSLR remote. I have it on my iPhone and adore it for SP's. I just wish the iPad version weren't so expensive.

hmmm...using a Canon 550D...it has hdmi output but I don't think it has real time preview (have to go read the manual again!)

tethered to the ipad would be ideal, perhaps wirelss through the pc..it is in the rom directly above...alas, moving the pc is not an option right now...

shoot tethered from the 550D to your PC (long USB cable ?) and then use one the VMware programs to control your PC from your Ipad.
