I'm new here and was hoping to get some opinions on how to improve my skills and technical knowledge. Would it be better to take classes at local college or do the DPS lessons? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

what level of knowledge do you have right now?
classes will usually teach you the basics and unless you're going to take a studio or artificial light workshops, I suggest you start with the online stuff and see how that works out for you. for the more advanced stuff it will usually help learning from someone who can show you the ropes for studio lightning and how to balance natural light with artificial lights.

It depends how you learn. If you're comfortable finding the info on your own and learning mostly from reading then doing it yourself, you'll likely find information here more than sufficient. If you learn more by seeing how it's done and in a face to face environment, then a class will probably help more. I've been quite happy finding the info myself, but that's just me and I know many other people who prefer a face to face environment.
