There's loads of apps on both these operating systems for photographers.. Many of which are rubbish, some of which are ok, but there's no real need to have them on a phone, your computer does a better job and having them mobile serves no advantage, and just one or two I use regularly.. I thought I'd share them with you, and find out what others use that I've been mising out on. I have an iPhone 3GS, and these are what I have on it.
Mr. Sun - This is a free solar positioning utility.. It tells you which direction the sun will be at any given poition on the planet and at any given time, and uses your phones internal compass and map to pinpoint your position. It tells you the time for sunrise and sunset, it's fast and efficient. Sun Seeker Lite- This is another free solar poitioning utility like the one above.. It has similar options, except it gives the solar positions overlayed onto a map, so you can see what time of day the sun will come streaming down a street ot over a mountain or whatever. The reason I put this second is that it has this annoying habit of popping up an overlay telling me my compass is not working properly.. Mr Sun doesn't have this problem, but the map overlay is useful, so I use both. Simple DoF - A cheap, paid app that tells me simply the depth of field and hyperfocal distance for any specific Focal length and aperture setting. It has the option of choosing two different cameras, and has settings for most of the cameras on todays market (Both my D7000 and my TZ10 P&S are on there) Longtime - A free app - This just does one thing.. Tells you what the exposure time should be for any given exposure reading without filter, and any particular filter.. For example, a 30s exposure reading without filter equates to 8h32m with an ND10 filter. It goes up to 20 stops, and tells me that a 30s exposure with 2 ND10 filters equates to a 1 year exposure!! That's about it.. What do you use?

I was having some problems looking for some iPhone apps that I could use for photography. Most of what I found were those that were included in the features page from the app store. Anyway, I've got some of the apps you already have like Instagram. I am going to download the apps you mentioned.

With a 3MPx camera, I don't really see the point of having editing programs on the 3GS.. Might take a look at Photosynth though.. That might make it worth using the camera.
(Must sting Apple to have a Microshaft app in their Appstore.

iBooks, with the manual for my camera loaded on it (.pdf form)
![]() Other than that, I occasionally use Instagram and/or the regular camera app for it's GPS feature; oh, and occasionally RunKeeper or TrailGuru, so I can see just how far I've hiked

Just to put it out there... I pretty much hate Instacrap and Crastamatic. Yep.
Photosynth is a cool app. Don't really use it but haven't deleted it yet. :D iDof Calc is just about the best free dof calculator I've found. Tried Field Tools and what ever I could find but all of them had some annoying thing like sliders that you can't really control as accurately as the slot machine type dial thingy. Haven't tried Photomaster yet but it looks promising. Golden Lite is ok for sun directiond and stuff and DaylightCal is kinda different but nice looking app. Although when I want real control I go with The Photographer's Ephemeris desktop version. For photo diagrams or whatevers: Sylights and Strobox I got plenty of actual camera apps but I don't really use any of them. Except CameraPrime (which used to be free). Only thing I use the iPhone camera for is documenting stuff I maybe wanna go take a real shot of. Or for reminders. Or very rarely for video. This just replaces the default camera and has the grid and small stuff like that to make life easier. If you need to educate your friends about photography basics the Pocket Chris app is mighty fine for that. I'm looking into getting an Eye-fi and their app or Shutter Snitch to mess around with iPad.
