Default Just frustrated a bit

Wow I must have ostracized myself somewhere along the way on this site. Bear with me on this. I enjoy this site. I learn from this site. I admire the talent that is shown. I do not post my pictures so people go aww and wow.
I post the to join in and yes it is nice to hear from another member that they enjoy the photograph or they do not and the reason why. I have to say this and I will most likely be outed but I cannot believe that on the past three contributions there has been not one comment. (yes I posted in the correct section) Two of the last three photographs have won acclaim from well known photographers. One was selected as the editors choice of the week in NAPP. As I said and I mean it truthfully I am not looking for anything but to join in. The next few comments are by no means a slight towards the persons who submitted the pictures. A picture of coloured crayons has a dozen people commenting on it. A baby with blue eyes gets twenty or thirty hits. A new member who say's hey how do you like this one of a flower with a bee on it. It's my first, and thirty five people comment. It just makes me wonder why you ask to share your shots. I mean not even one criticism .This is how we learn by our mistakes and advice from others who have been photographing for a long time. I realize the magnitude of picture that are posted and not all can be viewed. A year or so ago this site and it's members comments kept me going. Slowly as time goes by I see less and less of the members I admired. I really do not know how to end this "ramp" of mine and I hope that I have not offended anyone. I feel that it is so wide open now that the site has changed from what is was. I know from history that even Michael Angelo was criticized for his work and for speaking out so I do not feel bad voicing my feelings After all this is a forum and opinions can be voiced can they not? I just feel that I am not learning any more from contributing. I will still log in and look for those members that I have come to admire to see what new and exciting methods they are using .

I took a look at your flickr stream you have some nice photos in there.

I usually dont comment in the SYS forum very often. In fact I rarely visit that section of the forum. Not a whole lot of learning in SYS. I occasionally visit the critique section but got tired of the "how does this photo look" posts.

I have been on this site for three years, and I still lean new stuff weekly. I have found that going to some of the other sections like, post production, and lighting have some new stuff.

It might be prudent to not invest so emotionally in your posts on internet forums. People are busy and may not feel like commenting when all they will be saying is "great shot".

A lot of people rarely visit the SYS and Crit sections (I'm one). Also, SYS isn't the right forum for critique too.

I personally think that you'll get more honest opinions if you post your photos in Critique sections, instead of in SYS. If your photos are really good you'll get the praise you deserve, but you can also get negative opinions. I don't even bother looking at SYS sections, because I already spend enough time in critique and general chit-chat and to be honest, most photos is SYS are snapshots and seeing them doesn't make me want to comment on them. I know there is some good stuff in SYS as well, but I can't spend hours searching for it.

I looked at your last three posts (dress, boys and playing with shadows) - you've posted all of them in the SYS section.
I rarely comment on photos in the SYS section cause I'm not allowed to critique there so all I'm left with is the option of saying "great job" and for me, it needs to be a great photo to get me to comment.
back to your photos:
delivering the dress (you have 2 comments there) - it's a snapshot that doesn't do anything for me. sorry.
boys will be boys - I can see understand the idea but I hate selective coloring.
playing with his shadow (1 comment) - again, the sign on the side, him blending into the wall.. doesn't seem like a special shot to me.

what I'm saying is that, in my eyes, you have a lot to work on.
post in the critique section and trust me - you'll get many commenters that will rip your photos apart and will help you get better. that's what I did at the beginning and still do when I want advice.

good luck!

Tamcry -
I too have posted photos recently in SYS, and gotten no comments - so you're not alone. Judging from what is written above - it would seem there's just less commenting in the SYS section... Don't take it personally. which forum posts get comments seems to be quite random I too looked at your flickr, many great photographs there.

Tamcry,
I've never even looked at the SYS section and because of that I've never even seen your name. I'm not judging, but I don't "get" the need to simply post an image for positive comment because that's all you're allowed to get. I don't see how I (again not judging) could get any satisfaction or knowledge from posting in a section where Critiquing is not allowed. What do you really learn from a slew of "wow, nice photo" comments? I'd wager not a whole lot. And if you're not getting comments, might that be commentary on your images in and of itself?

I notice that in your last 114 posts, you've only ever posted in the Critique section three times. Your HDR post got you some very honest if not to your liking commentary and THIS is how you respond:
"Who the hell gives you the right to question what lens I use. Also little man this is a site for critiquing not slandering. “The sky is ugly as sin “Grow up. man. If you cannot follow the rules of the game and respond as a mature individual just keep you mouth shut. Also if you have any more words of wisdom regarding my photography I will be glad to give you my address so you can say them to my face. __________________"
(bold not added by me)

I'm really not sure what to tell you after this because I'm not sure you're ready for the Critique section even though you apologized for your blowing your top, yet I'm SURE you'll not learn anything from SYS because it's a bunch of back patting in my opinion which is not conducive to learning anything. Do you honestly think you'll learn anything from the type of comments found in the SYS?

May I suggest that you can learn a whole lot about photography by looking at images in a critical way and contributing to the Critique section by critiquing images? One of the ways I learned a lot early on was to look at other work critically and try to put it into words..

I challenge you to make your next 5 posts in the Critique section and I promise you'll get a lot more useful (even if not always glowing) feedback from which you can actually learn something.

Sorry you feel this way, but I think a lot of what you're feeling is self imposed by limiting yourself to the SYS section.

I know how you feel but it's important not to take it personally. Pats on the back feel good and I think that's what I get out of SYS although they are very few and far between. When I do get a pat on the back it boosts my CONFIDENCE and gives me the necessary kick to keep going. I use SYS for inspiration. This isn't a popularity contest what I am about to say BUT I like looking at RuthieMae's photos and SusanH's and a few other children photographers just so I can think to myself "How did they do that?" sometimes I ask questions about their photos and get answers so I can go off and try to do what they do if that makes sense.

If a photo sticks out for me then I reply and other times I just look and pass by but its not that I don't like the photo its just that I don't have time to reply to each and every photo and I expect other people feel the same about mine.

My photos rarely get commented on (and probably for good reason).
I think that you see so many great photos in here that it's hard to comment on all of them.

Like candidrachel when I see one that I really like I'll comment on it.
