Default Anyone using digital signature programs?

So far, all the ones I've found have been too expensive (Docusign) or require the clients to set up an account (Adobe) and I don't really want to rope them into that.

Other ideas for electronically signing contracts?

I'll look at Reader X, but Esign is the one that would require all my clients to create an Adobe account. I'd prefer not to rope them into that.

Jim,

I use Adobe Reader and Adobe Acrobat and it works great for me. I do not use in a photography business but in a life sciences consulting business and almost all of my documents are signed/approved via Adobe software.

I have not tried this but it is my understanding that you can electronically sign documents with MS Word 2003 and 2007.

Be careful about using the word electronic signature vs digital signature. They are different. What is the intent of the signature? You can create a "signature" in Acrobat that has your information. This is in no way a legally binding signature. I can create a signature that makes it appear I am Jim Poor very easily. You need to use a certificate service such as Adobe service. This is something that will hold up in court. You may also want to look at document certification that will show if a document is modified. With Acrobat I can easily modify a document and you won't be able to tell me it was modified unless it is certified.

You can't get around people needing an account since you need a certificate server. You have to have the ability to be verified you are who you say you are.

Otherwise stick to wet ink. But keep in mind that processing paper costs money. You touch it, you fax it, you scan it, you mail it etc.
