Well...
First, how we met. The first time I saw her, it was a nice spring day and she was surrounded with flowers. We met at a funeral. ![]() About a month and a half later, we were driving to a picnic on her side of the family and I asked: "What would you say if I asked you to marry me right now" She said "You're a bit fast aren't you?" I never asked again. ![]() We got engaged that Christmas and got married on the first day of summer the year after (1980). We took a cruise last year to celebrate our 30th. I asked: "Ready for another 30?" She just said: "Yep!" Not your typical romantic couple but, hey, it works.

We were a little backwards on everything. We had a baby then 4 years later got married, haha! But, my husband proposed to me at our baby shower. We sat in the middle of the room opening gifts and after I opened the last one he said wait there's one more. He got down on his knee in front of everyone and asked me to marry him.

I met my wife to be at a party. A young French fellow kept bothering her so I got her away from him and than we got to talking and danced the rest of the night. We got engaged four months later and as we were both in school she was studying to be a RN, and I was studying criminal law to become a Police Officer. I had to ask her dad for her hand in marriage, but what was interesting was the day I came over to ask her to marry me, her mom knew that was why I was coming over. We married a year and a half later, had a great Church wedding and have been married going on 41 years.

lol,...ok.
Well, my husband and I met through my first husband. lol,... I know,..I know. For the sake of this were going to call my first husband C and the love of my life R. So, C and I were checking out some apartments. R's Dad is a plumber, and knows half of our town because he grew up there. So, when we were shown the available unit, they were there doing some work for the owner. I quickly realized that C knew the hot guy working in the upstairs bathroom. C was that friend in their group that everyone else just kinda put up with, but didnt really like all that much. R had just come back from serving in the US Marines. He's not one of those arrogant egotistical pompous asses that they tend to produce though. One reason I divorced C was because he wouldnt keep a job. Wouldnt not Couldnt. There was always some childish excuse. So, R's Mother was kind enough to let us move into their garage, that we kinda turned into a room. R's old bedroom was being used as storage, so the three of us all ended up in this one room. I got to know R more in this time, and finally gave C an ultimatum. Find a job and keep it, or show me that your at least trying to find one, within the next 6 months, or I'm done with your crap. He made it 3, before I gave up. I told him that was it. Drove him to a friends house, with all of his sh!t, and I stayed in the room with R. We were paying a rent to R's Mom also,..so then my rent went down half. It was about a week later, and I was in a relationship with R. It was kinda inevitable. He kissed me once, and I was putty. Despite his sexual prowess, we fell distant. He was working 3rd shift, and going to school during the day. I worked 2nd shift. So we hardly ever saw eachother. I fussed that he could make time to play his beloved World of Warcraft, but couldnt make time for me? I put up with it for a while, but finally gave up. So I broke up with him and moved into a spare room that a friend at work offered me. Mind you, I couldnt moved back home with Mom,..but she lives about 45 mins away in the next town. I didnt want to drive that much if I could avoid it. Now, while R and I were dating, I would often get out of work, and go to the local IHOP and hang out with our friends til like 3 am. R would already be at work when I left. I was spending more time with a friend of ours than I was R. No, nothing happened with this friend,... he was just that, a friend. This friend worked at the local movie theater as the projectionist, and they had hired an new guy from New York, that had experience managing a theater. He started hanging out with our group. Enter, E, my boyfriend for 2 1/2 years. Mind you, I started dating him AFTER I broke up with R. I have no idea how I put up with him for that long, cuz he was a REAL PAIN IN The A$$!! We were dating for a few months, and he saved me from having to move back to Mom's by getting a place, and we moved in together. It's funny, cuz out of the blue he just texted me earlier tonight and told me that he'd cheated on me while we were dating with one of our mutual friends. I was like,.."Ok,... And I'm supposed to give a sh!t about that now?" I kinda figured that he was anyways. Did I really care at the time? A lil,..but not really. I used him, he used me. We're even. He finally broke up with me,... which I was waiting for him to do. I moved back home, and eventually started talking to an ex-bf again. We'll call him S,... but we never really got back together officially. He lives in another state, and one reason I broke up with him before was because I didnt want a long distance relationship. I was hanging out with a male friend from work, one night,..one thing led to another, and after about a week. I told S that I had met someone. I dated J for a while,...( I feel like I've gone thru the whole damn alphabet of guys,...lol. I'm not that easy,..really. A heart breaker, yes. Easy, no. ) J was a nice guy, but he was a small town farm boy, the product of a second marriage, with parents as old as my grandparents, and he was the same age as me. I never met his parents. Good wholesome Christian boy. And here I was, the Agnostic suburban city girl, with a Wiccan/Pagan Mother. He was so many things that I'm not,... and bloody freakin annoying sometimes. I never saw him either, cuz he has his own business, and worked at Lowe's full time. I told him he'd make some girl very happy some day, but that girl wasnt me. While I was going thru the alphabet of guys, R re-enlisted into the military. The ARmy this time. He worked at the local Kia dealership before it went under, but ultimately re-enlisted for two reasons. One,.better paycheck. Two,.he was running away from me, and seeing me go thru all these guys. His Dad would tell me when R was coming home on leave, and every time I knew he'd be home, I'd go see him. I told myself it was me staying in touch with him because we were still friends. It took a while for the awkwardness to go away. He was bitter at me at first, with good reason. But saw me anyways, because he was still in love with me. After about 3 years of doing that, when I was dating J, he came home one time. We hung out almost the whole time he was here, cuz J was working the whole time. While he was home, we would laugh and cut up and have a good time, and I realized how much I missed him. That he could say something in reference to a popular movie, or comedian, and we'd both laugh. J was sheltered, and stuff like that was wasted on him. I dont think I ever heard J laugh. I started calling R at night while J was asleep, cuz J and I had different sleep schedules. After a while, I finally gave up on J. I started talking to R every night after that. R and I finally decided that we wanted to be back together,..but we didnt know how we'd do it. He told me on his last visit home, that if I wasnt with J, he mightve proposed. So, we'd talked some about it, I deliberated for about a week, then finally said,.." Ya know what? We've jumped into things with eachother from the start, why not make it that way with this too?" So, we just kinda decided that we'd get married. The day before Mother's Day last year, I gave my Mom her Mother's Day present. I had to work the next day, and didnt wanna wait. She was talking about where I'd sleep while they ripped up the carpet in my room to refinish the hardwood floors underneath. I told her if she waited a couple of months, she might not have to worry about that. Told her R and I's plans. She was happy, cus she knew R. We immediately went into wedding planning mode, and we managed to plan a simple backyard wedding in two months. On, June 3rd R flew into Knoxville and proposed to me properly in the middle of the airport, in his ACU's while everyone else watched. He of course, already knew the answer. We got married the next day under one of the huge Maple trees in my Mom and Step-Dad's yard. Our only hitch was the ungodly humid Tennessee June heat. We spent one night in the honeymoon suite at a lovely Best Western in Gatlinburg ( which is grander than it sounds really ) , and the following Saturday together. He flew back here to Texas EARLY Sunday morning, and I cried like a baby as I watched his plane take off. A couple months after that, and here I am. When I met my now good friend Rebekah, who's husband was bunkmates with R in Iraq the first time, R went to the bathroom and her husband told me that the entire time they were there, R talked about me. Our Anniversary is coming up in two weeks, and despite that he's been overseas now for 3 1/2 months,..it's still been the best year. I'm looking forward to his R&R in September, and finally when he gets to come home for good. His contract ends in 2013, and hopefully, we'll have a lil one by then. Long enough for ya? lol |
